Little blurb that I came across when searching for the "Born in Baja" video (IIRC) said that Ford built 50 off road only versions of the Baja Raptor, each with the massaged 500 hp 6.2L engine. Really haven't seen or heard much about them. Any of these known to exist?

I think upon reading further, they actually never went to production. A later article was talking about Ford putting 15 sets of the 500 hp engine's cams up for sale...

Yeah, I agree. For $100K you get the 500 hp engine, full interior, upgraded suspension with tons of wheel travel, mucho skid plating, bead lock wheels, A/C, 5-point harnesses. What's not to like?...except for the hundred grand part I guess

If you could find one.

And if they had actually made them back then, it'd probably cost you at least double to get your hands on one now

Yup. My oldest and I have a dream of getting him/me an off road ready/prepared Gen 1 on the West Coast somewhere and doing the Baja Run that gets touted on here. Would be a blast!

Pretty sure you can still buy those cams. However they are not a direct bolt in. They have so much lift that they will touch the pistons, so the top of the pistons need to be clearanced.

If your going to take the whole motor apart to have the stock pistons fly cut for clearance, you might as well look at doing more with the motor as a whole, instead of just the cams upgrade. I’d personally want more than just 500HP doing all that work.

One of the really nice things was that I think they also had a full chromo cage built in. It was in a peterson's mag a long time back. They didn't come with Vins so that you couldnt register them on-road. Seems like a lot of money for something a shop could build you better, for a similar price, but that was before luxo prerunners became a thing.

Still loved this TSCO prerunner at Laughlin back in 2011, but it was center mount front, linked rear, full tube chassis with a raptor cab
