So this may be a silly question but lets say i have a 17"rim and 35" tire VS a 22" rim on a 35" tire....(same brand rim and tire combo) will one be lighter than the other? which theoretically would get better milage/acceleration etc?

In THEORY, the tire with the smaller wheel opening will be heavier, however that would be offset by a lighter smaller wheel. There are always exceptions, though. You definitely don't want 22" on a Raptor. It would ruin the offroad capability, greatly increase tire costs, result in less tire choices, ride rougher, look stupid, etc. It would also stick out further, since larger rims are also wider.

As far as mileage and acceleration, the lighter wheel/tire combo will win.

^^^ THIS ^^^ If you are considering 22s, your money will be better spent on a decked out Lariat or Platinum F150.

You would think a 35x12.50R22 would weigh less than a 35x12.50R17 given all the extra sidewall on the 17" tire but it's rarely the case.
Example:
35x12.50R22 Nitto Ridge Grappler = 71lbs
315/70R17 Nitto Ridge Grappler = 71lbs

You can definitely find 17" wheels that weigh less than 22" wheels. There is exceptions but if lightest weight is you're concern it's best to find a lightweight tire that suits your needs first and then a lightweight wheel to follow.
