That coolant temp must be wrong. Or a blend of coolant and oil temp like bmw does. 237 is head warping on most vehicles. And why is the gauge not at the top of the range?

It all depends oil brand and type but 275 is when I begin to worry on my race car. 250 is perfectly fine and burns off contaminates.

This sounds spot on to me.

If you dig on the internet, a Ford engineer commented on proper oil temps in a Q and A session when the 13-14 GT500 came out.

Too cold can be a problem, if I recall Ford targeted 225-230 on the GT500's running 5w-50

I am guessing in extreme conditions the oil to water coolers can saturate the engine cooling loop to the point of being overwhelmed kinda like the Boss 302 Laguna Seca's did out of the box at track days.

You can go down a real rabbit hole as far as oil is concerned and how it's made, actual base stock ingredients. One of my friends used to be the CEO of Redline oil and boy does it get complicated. Basically just buy the best oil you can at the proper viscosity for the engine taking into account climate and change more often than the manufacturer recommends.

Frankly for a street driven vehicle the brand isn't as important as other factors. However if you routinely seem temps in the 270s or higher then yeah buy the best oil you can. It all begins to break down over 300.

YMMV

After a little spirited driving through some twisty off-road fun, I was seeing mid-260’s. Coolant temp hitting 250 as well. Upgraded to a Full-Race radiator and trans cooler. Have a aux oil cooler I just need to make a mounting solution for.

But low 200’s seems to be the everyday norm on the road.

yeah I agree. My ‘17 seemed to run hotter than my ‘19 on the road. But only saw these high temps pushing it hard at the dunes and the salt flats.

Oh, and when the coolant temp hits about 250, you get this fancy message (I had slowed to let it cool by the time I got the picture taken).

I like that information display! Far better than what we get with the Gen1! What's below the inlet temp?

38E78F11-1217-40DF-8AE9-7044D39E7C05.png Tsb Get it done. Mine wasn’t burning oil per day truck only has 1200 miles on it. But after it was hot and sat 30 minutes or so it would smoke like hell on start up. So far so good. I was told it changes crank case venting and oil routing through valve covers

Just recently came back from chasing the Silver State 300. I had my Gauge View display for most of the trip and I noticed a few things that alarmed me a bit.

215-230 degrees
  • 75 MPH
  • A/C at mid level
  • Three total passengers
  • bed loaded (approx. 500 pounds)
  • 37-inch X-A/T Yokohama tires.
  • Outside temperature was around 95-100 degrees
  • Driving through flat and progressive incline highway grades.

240-260 degrees
  • 75 MPH
  • A/C at mid level
  • Three total passengers
  • Bed loaded (approx. 500 pounds)
  • 37-inch X-A/T Yokohama tires.
  • Outside temperature was around 95-100 degrees
  • Driving through higher than normal incline highway grades.
Only mods:
  • 37-inch Tires
  • CAI by AFE Power

Please chime in if these are concerning temperature readings.
