Yeah I wasn’t too happy. He had quite the attitude right up until he saw me with the service manager sitting in his Raptor, who happens to be a friend of mine. Then all of a sudden he wasn’t rude or talking down to me anymore.

Which brings me to something else. What are the labor rates at the dealers in your state? My buddy tells me the mechanical side of the shop is like 189 and hour and the maintenance Side is 149 per hour. The costs of these vehicles are gonna price themselves right out of business one of these days.

If you can, DIY your oil changes.

I get it. I don’t know why I still roll around on my garage floor doing oil changes. I guess I’m too stubborn to stop.
When you can’t get your socks on or wipe your ass then you know your hurtin. I had the dealer do the oil change and install my Ford Performance rear diff cover which has been sitting in my bench for over a month. Planned on doing it myself but that didn’t work out.

So I’m at the dealer currently having a couple maintenance issues done. I jacked my back up pretty good and can’t even put on my shoes so I figured I’d have them do an oil change for me.

This has never happened before but this service writer tried to upsell me on this new (as of last year according to him) oil additive conditioner that Ford is now recommending for the turbos. Uh huh. 45 bucks in addition to the cost of the oil. Anyone wanna chime in on this?

I suppose that this dealership is pushing additives that Ford doesn't insist using. I know from some friends who are/were service writers for dealerships like Ford/Nissan/etc. and some of them quite because the Mgmt. put high pressure on the service writers to up-sell at every opportunity. One way/tactic is the 'complimentary' checks on stuff (e.g. brake pad thickness, etc.) and the other is exactly this. I'd say avoid the dealership all-together when it comes to oil changes. I know you have back problems, I get it and very familiar with back problems myself, but get yourself a FuMoto valve as I believe they make one for the newer Raptors. Get the Amsoil Ea filters that only need to be changed at 1yr/25k intervals and you'll then have tool-less oil changes and only have to worry about the filter once a year. Otherwise, just decline the up-sell crap if this dealership is super convenient for one reason or other. At least until the warranty has expired.

Ford does not recommend any oil additives. Dealers try and increase their bottom line through up sells, which include things like flushes and additives. They often incentivize the Service Advisors through spifs, which is why some of them push the products/services so hard.

I haven't been to Ford in a while. I usually service those myself. Last I went to BMW for repairs it was $189 or $196/hour... I don't recall. A local independent BMW shop charges $165/hour. Both those prices seem ridiculous to me.

Sweet, been waiting on discussions like this. Could anyone chime in on having your transmission flushed with 97k on the OD? It's a 2017. I'd rather hear from the Raptor community than take the word of a Fusion, Mustang, Explorer and everything else specialist.
