The trend now is to use Rope Shackles. They won’t kill you if they fail. Always use a rope/strap dampener. Heavy blanket or better yet Warn makes a great one.
Like anything else, you get what you pay for, I just dropped $250 on a Knetic Energy Rope and I carry a 3” strap. All are cheaper than a $1K tow.

IMHO it’s the best self-recovery tool you can carry. They gave saved me and many other people that I have rescued.
