Fair point on the comment "proven". Yes, you are correct that both have a proven record as far years / quantity in service. However, you can then dig deeper and look at the service history, types of problems, warranty $$, etc. I do not have any rose colored glasses on when I say this... but, you will not find the issues on a 6.2 that you will see on the various iterations of the 3.5 ecoboost.
Performance and tech is one way to compare engines. That's not what I am interested in an an offroad truck. Reliability, and future problems are what I look at and gen 1 raptor provides much more security from having a truck down. It is just not worth the risk.
Hello ALL!! I am new to this forum. I am in the market for a Raptor! I am thinking about a GEN1 or GEN2. I have been a big big fan since the Raptor first came out! I am also a FORD guy. It is my Dream truck!! Unfortunately in this market they are(as everything else is) overpriced a bit! So is there anything I should keep my eyes open for and anything to be aware of when looking at the Gen1s and Gen2s. I live in Jersey so I know rust will be an issue. I dont mind the GEN1s, I had a couple of motor head buddys that said the GEN1 motors are great motors. I will be using it possibly for towing a small 5-6k lb RV once in awhile. I know they arent the best for towing on the Reg. I appreciate any advice!

@methose here are some pics of my Gen 1 for sale. I’m located in Raleigh NC.

It’s a fully loaded 2014 Special Edition and they only made 3100 of the Ruby Red that year.
Custom tune with 3 settings and one is a tow tune. I pulled my full-size 84 K5 Blazer for a 5 hour road trip and I could barely tell us was back there.

Upgrades:
- stage 4+ RPG suspension
- RPG upper control arms
- pedal commander
- custom tune
- drilled and slotted rotors
- 13 inch W5 JL Audio stealthbox
- rigid light bar and fog lights
- afe diff cover
- Corsa exhaust
- 8K LED headlights
- pinstripe Ford letters on grill
- brand new 35x12.50x17 Maxxis Razr AT
- mr305 method wheels
- truxedo bed cover
- sequential turn signals on both sides of the rear view mirrors

It’s a sweet ride that gets compliments from a variety of people.

Please send me a message if you’re interested in talking.
