LED Light Bars and Old School Lighting?

I have been looking at the LED light bars as I like the profile and, from what I gather, they would outperform the four 8'' rounds I have been considering. I am having trouble finding any comparisons between the Vision X bars and the Rigid Bars. I would like to go with a 40 inch and am curious if any of you have experience with both products, links for comparison and/or any other thoughts regarding front lighting in general?

Anyone have photos to compare the light output of the LED's vs HID vs Halogen? I am new to LED's and like the concept but have not seen real world photos of them in use. How well do LED's work in dense fog?

You tube the Rigid Light bar.
They Beat those things to death. Shoot them with guns, drag them behind cars, keep them in water for weeks, and they still turn on and work like a charm. They have been tested in snow, sand, dirt, mud, etc. At the end of the day you will want a light that can take more punishment then you can give it and still be the best performing light on the market.
We have seen both vision x lights and the Rigid lights come through here and I think the Rigid light is brighter and a much stronger, better built light.
Also Rigid Lights are completely built and designed in America so you don't have to worry about quality control of overseas or lack there of and cheap overseas parts. I have personally been to the rigid factory and have seen their quality control.
Since they are a local company, they have great customer service and are super easy to work with.
I will call Taylor from Rigid and get their spec sheet.
    Just my thoughts.

    Just my experience with it.

    SDHQ...thanks for the post.

I suspected a lot of what you confirmed...ie these light bar comparisons that are oh so easy to Google...are not apples to apples and not best to best comparisons as of Jan 2011.

Unfortunately I haven't seen any shootouts that seem to be unbiased and fairly executed.

ADD...regarding the domestic content bit, for me, quality is quality no matter where it comes from. I live in a global economy. My F150 Raptor is the first "US Brand" auto I've purchased in 25 years. And I get the "we are really good friends with the guys from Rigid" vibe. That's good and I'm glad you support your partners.

Probably the real question for both of you...How different are the two product's mounting points and how difficult would it really be to weld up tabs for the alternative product? And the clincher...do either of you offer your customers the option?

    Thanks for continuuing the discussion.

oh and Peppercorn... re: LED's vs HID's...be sure to read about the long range differences between the two. If distance is important, you may find the 8" rounds a better option.

Hmmm, i hope I haven't stirred something up here. I was hoping to find that which had eluded my so so search skills on Google. I was just thinking since a lot of us use off road lighting that there maybe was a comparo I missed somewhere.

I really like what both ADD and SDHQ have brought to the Raptor community and honestly if not for the adds and posts on this forum I probably would be sporting those
    8'' rounds already....so many options.

I have the 40" Rigid... hey, I like the way that sounds...anyway I absolutely love it but I have read of a few people sending them back for condensation problems.

    Mine's mounted behind the grill.

Behind the grill, wow, I hadn't thought about that. Did you experience much light loss due to the grill and do you have any pictures of your mounting brackets?

I would youtube both rigid and vision x and see what real testing has been done. Spec sheets are one thing, real testing is another. I would call Taylor at Rigid and talk with him. I'm only a fan of them. And I like their lifetime warranty.
