Last week my wife I hit the Trail on her Spring-break. We decided to run Powerlin-Ridge for the first time. We had just come out of a deep wash, up onto a Ridge that had a Spectacular Lake View. We went about another 1/2 mile and Ran into One of the World’s Greatest Fisherman, An OSPREY. If you have never seen one, or witnessed them fishing, you are missing out. I will see if I can find the images I captured of one fishing in Brian Head Utah. They are equipped to dive INTO AND UNDER the water! It was crazy to actually see this Crazy Bird dive under the water and come up with a trout!
My other NAT GEO Osprey was several years ago in Grand Teton NP. I was shooting some images of Mama and her babies in the nest. My wife says “ Hey what’s that?” I swing my lens over and captured dad with a Fresh Rainbow in his Talons, bringing it to the nest for Fresh Trout Night in the Crib! ;)
It is all about the right place, at the right time :)
When this guy takes off, you can clearly see what’s left of his Fresh Bass Dinner in his Talons. I felt bad about disturbing his dinner :(

Very cool John! I love big birds of prey. I was lucky enough to have a bald eagle spend 2 summers here in a really tall tree at my place. I would feed it the groundhogs I shot, he loved them. They are so cool to watch. The only annoying habit he had was he would scream at anyone who walked into the back yard. It's LOUD and can really tighten your sphincter if you aren't expecting it.

Here's an immature Baldy getting a "to go" meal.

Nice pics John, we get Ospreys here and Turkey vultures and bald eagles. We use to catch rock fish on Vancouver island years ago when we were salmon fishing and we would slap the rock fish on top of the water and then throw the fish away from the boat, the eagles would always swoop down and grab a free meal. Nature is very beautiful when you can catch it with a camera lens, even if it’s only a cheap $700.00, lol. Keep them pictures coming, they are amazing!

I’ve seen pictures of the Eagles doing that in Alaska, on my bucket list along with capturing the Grizzlies Salmon Fishing. Osprey are not to be trifled with. I had a buddy who was a prolific photographer among other things and he would take Osprey pics from Fort Belvoir along the Potomac River in NoVA. There are several mating pairs of bald eagles as well as a healthy osprey population. He got pictures of
Bald eagles snagging fish from the river.
Osprey stalking eagles with fish
eagles are weighed down and not as fast
Osprey attack bald eagles in mid air, steal bald eagle's lunch
Osprey fly off and eat their lunch.

Quite impressive.
