hi all,

2013 screw 6.2

just yesterday i started having this issue when going to start the truck. it happened about 6 times today. truck eventually starts and runs fine after the grinding/hesitation.

i recently had an engine fire but everything was replaced by mechanic.
-alternator
-battery
-battery to alternator wire harness and belt.
- a few other things but nothing that would cause this type of issue.

i also just replaced the spark plugs with new wires and boots

planning on bringing it back to the same mechanic but could this just be my starter going bad?

ive attached a link to video of it happening ( 3 different clips all within about a 1/2 hour )

thanks in advance.

You can swap out a starter in 20min.

They are inexpensive and available.

While it's out you can inspect the starter cables, at least a part of the flywheel, and also confirm that the starter wasn't lose or damaged.

If the sound returns then you know it wasn't the starter and you can keep the old one as a spare.

The trans cooler line is (kinda) in the way, and you need to be "creative" to reach the 2 long bolts that hold it on. I think that the 3.5 TT ecoboost version has more stuff in the way than the NA 6.2 motor.

BTW, I still have a scar on my forehead where a wrench slipped out of my hand and smacked me. I didn't stop wrenching until I noticed blood in my eye. Glad I was wearing safety glasses!

This is the Raptor version, after having done a transmission swap. That was fun. Especially trying to wiggle the transfer case back on.

Thanks. Will go this route. Gonna order this week. Will update soon as it’s done.

Installed new starter tonight. Was a bit of a pain. Not too bad though. Had to get two starters since the first one I got broke during install. Got everything bolted up and when tightening down the grounding cable, the piece (plastic ) that the bolt was attached to snapped.
Got the second one in a lot quicker and truck fired right up.
Will keep y’all posted on whether the issue continues. Fingers crossed that it was just my starter failing.
Thanks again for the advice
