The question is, does it harm the transmission?
I dont really mind one or two hard shifts as long as it doesn’t harm it on long-term

Good question Moetor, I don't think so, but I am not specialist...
No doubt about the fact trans shift harder in sport mode, well it's sport mode, (I don't really like this feeling of hard shift) )
In normal mode I have also sometime , this "clunk" when trans shift down from third to second, or second to one, (i don't know exactly, haven't checked precisely), it doesnt' worry me, but it is !

Firm shifts have no detrimental effect on the transmission. If there is a failure and it causing a harsh engagement, all drive modes will typically be affected.

Thanks for your answers, it is really a relief to hear that.
I actually do enjoy sport mode and I usually drive around the city using it apart from that clunk, it is one of the most exciting things about the truck.

My Gen 2 also exhibits this, but it's in normal mode, typically when the truck has been cold, but not always. For me it seems to be down from 4-3.

Get Forscan and clear the adaptive learning table, reset TCM and PCM. Works like a charm and only costs about $68. Lots of YouTube videos to show you how to do this.

Not a gen 3 but my Gen 1 was flaring shifts with 205,000 miles on it. The lead frame and reprogramming were not issues and its had filter and fluid exchanges. I just drained enough to put in two bottles of lucas trans stip slip. It wasn't slipping just flaring as in the solenoids were a bit laggy and overlapping. This stuff actrually works, it went back to working great again.
