I brought my truck to the shop to look into a loud pinging sound coming from the front end under heavy acceleration. The tech at the Ford dealership here in Fairbanks AK called me saying he went in the front differential and there was quite a bit of accumulated metal.
They recommended a full rebuild of the front differential quoted at $2500. I’m not too mechanically inclined so I was wondering if this is pretty standard price range for a rebuild/re-gearing. I understand the labor costs I just don’t want to get raked over the coals for the dealer to do this if it should be cheaper.
