GEN 2 Found while changing wipers

Realized it was time to change the wiper blades while on a long weekend trip to TN. Picked up new wiper blades on Wednesday and when I went to change them, I found these down in the well where the base of the wiper is. One on each side, pen cap for scale:
Thought it might just have been road debris when I found the first one on the driver side, but after finding an identical one on the passenger side, I doubt it would be just road debris anymore.

Anyone know what they are?

Wipers still seem to work fine, but haven't had them running above 35mph yet.

I had read in here a while ago that they are used to line up the wiper arms on the keyway. Mine didn't have any.

Thanks Oldfart! That pointed me in the right direction and looks like they are just used in production and aren't needed after that.

I found one of these on my shop floor. Never could figure out what the hell it was. Now I can toss them!

They’re handy to keep if you ever need to take the wiper arms off.
