Ford is way behind GM in EV manufacturing lines. They missed the boat and this is a knee jerk reaction to shift capex dollars into new tech. Should’ve been doing this years ago. The lightning with all its hype is a huge let down. TFL did a camper pull test against a GMC 6.2 (IIRC) and the lightning only made it 96 miles on a range expectancy of over 300 (but it can power your house). Then you have the folks on the R forum waiting 17 months after announcing the R for it to finally be revealed and those lucky enough to get one will probably have to wait another 6 months for delivery.

I don't think the 17 month wait was really unexpected. I could be wrong about this, but was there another time in history where car manufacturers could make that sort of design change in shorter time? Regardless, you fix this with layoffs?

It could be that it's their excuse, not their reason. And they have been parts limited, not labor limited. And now maybe they predict a recession. The way they did in March of 2020. How is that working out?

Would a recession really mean much of slowdown for Ford though? They still have reservations for years and sell everything they make. Even if you do expect that sales will slow by 25% or whatever, you have stated investment goals that you want to be ready to pay off once the recession is over and people are ready to throw money at them again.

Dunno. I'm just speculating. But corporate managers manage the quarterly earnings, not long term profits. It's how they're rewarded, so it makes sense. That's why companies go downhill when the founder retires.

Got interrupted, sorry. The point was that if Ford sees ongoing supply chain issues, they might chop headcount for earnings. The woke BS might be camouflage.

Looks like they might be selling everything they make but they are not making Nearly the amount of units they were making a few years ago. Ford will make 500,000 less this year according to the chart over 2016. So it seems they are over staffed if they had the same amount of employees the last six years

How did other EVs do in the camper test?

looks pretty bad for the F series. No wonder why the lots are so empty.
