I’ve been off-roading here 32+ year and this is my first time out this way into the Black Canyon Wilderness. I took a bunch of pictures I’ll add here shortly.
The Trails up to the Mesa and Lookout Point were testing me and Blue Lighting.
4 hrs for 12 miles! Rock-Crawl and 4-Low through Softball/Basketball size volcanic rocks, scraping boards and testing my sidewalls :0

@Muchmore we are supposed to head to Topeka at the end of the month to see family. Any trails around KC/Lawrence that you know about. Driven a little of the Flint Hills and the Farm Rds out that way.

If you have driven KS dirt roads then you must know downtown Topeka! Do you know what you call a bunch of John Deere's around Sonic in Topeka on a Saturday night? PROM! :anitoof:

I'm more familiar with Southern MO than out there in middle KS, so I don't know of anything out there other than like you mentioned gravel roads.

Check out Kansas Rocks

Probably closest thing to Topeka. They have some off-road trails and fun events. Unfortunately it’s IN Kansas. Heard there is a place down around Springfield, MO too.
