De-contenting is a cost saving tactic used by all manufacturers. They do it to save on costs and hope the consumer doesn’t take notice. It’s only on forums like this that it’s caught and talked about.

If a manufacturer can save $1.80 per truck by removing a spring on a console lid and you make 900,000 F150’s annually you just saved the company $1,620,000.00. The company employee who suggested the cost savings idea sometimes gets compensated via a bonus, etc.
