no, engine off for the whole thing. if its on, its warm, you hit it with cold water, that can cause issues.

best to have the engine off, and cover any areas you dont want water to hit. plastic bags work great.
ive cleaned my rangers engine bay several times like this.

Hence why I said 5 minutes is about perfect, then rinse off :)

Also, scrub brush can be helpful for dirt buildup. Very helpful lol

A little Adams All Purpose Cleaner, Boars Hair brush, Adams SVRT, and Adams In and Out spray for hard to reach areas.
