Trying to replace my drive belt. Is this the tensioner? And where does it loosen?

Thanks!

The square hole to the left of your arrow pointing at the tensioner, as I recall, long breaker bar with 3/8in end, place in hole and rotate tensioner down to take pressure off belt.

How does it release? Both directions are very tight but when I try clockwise which is tightening in the real world, it seems to slightly loosen. Does the whole nut loosen or do I have to hold it and pull the old belt off at the same time? That seems difficult.
