I just pulled the first spark plug on my 2014 Raptor at 161k. Spark plug looks clean and the gap is at .047, my new SP-526 I gaped at .041. Does anyone think I should open them up a tad, say .043 maybe. Only want to do this job once if I can help it. Raptor is down for alternator replacement anyway so thought I would knock out the plugs while I was at it.

Thanks, that is kind of where I'm at on this. The next two plugs were .050 and the forth was .051, looks like they should have been changed much sooner even though it seemed to run fine.

Things didn't progress as fast as I would have liked, only got ten of the plugs done. Ran into a couple that were being difficult. Now that I'm into this I don't understand how my Raptor was running as well as it was. Also ordered an alternator, serpentine belt and tensioner.

Should a guy spray some wd40 on them first and let sit overnight? Or are they just difficult to get to?

Nothing has been to difficult to get to so far, the plug with the broken porcelain was hard to turn til the last thread and does not look like it was ever seated.

Anti-seize the threads on the new ones and you will be fine. The plugs get stuck due to the differences in materials, the plugs are steel, coated in zinc and the heads are aluminum so you get a galvanic reaction and they just corrode in place over time.

On that plug that was messed up take a look at the threads in the head, they may be jacked. If so it isn't a huge deal, just cover a tap in grease, and chase it. Pull the tap every few turns and wipe off the grease, replenish. The removed material will get stuck in the grease. Clean the grease from the plug hole when you are done.

So far I have not had a single plug not want to start by hand with just fingers on the extension. I have 12 done 4 to go, didn't have much time to work on the Raptor today but I should finish the plugs tomorrow. Alternator, serpentine belt and tensioner came in today waiting on the two idler pulleys before I can button that up. Then it's on to the tranny for fluid and filter since it aint going no where anyway right now.

OK plugs are done thank god, this job is for a younger man the way you have to contort your body, I'm sore as can be.

The electrode was stuck in the plug wire when I pulled the boot, no telling how long it had been broke and came from the front cylinder driver side, the other broken plug came from the second cylinder on that side and I think I may have contributed to it's demise getting it out.

The gaps are all over the place as you can see. Not any more though all are set to .041.
