Hi all.
This my first of hopefully many more posts.

I’m considering ordering a 2019, but I’m not sure I can wait that long and have thought about maybe buying a lightly used 2017 or 2018.

Can anyone tell me or direct me to what the differences are between the 2017 and 2018 model years?

Thanks!

The cheap paper speakers in the 2017 have Sony badging while the cheap paper speakers in the 2018 have B&O badging.

Also, 2017 can change ambient light colors while the 2018 is fixed, blue I think.

And colors. Avalanche in 2017, Leadfoot in 2018.

Any major mechanical differences?

Anything that was changed due to potential issues they found in the 2017’s?

360 camera button location changed from 17' to 18'.

They don't really disclose any mechanical changes that were made. Someone reported that the oil pan is metal but that was a mid 18 change.

I am pretty sure there is a thread which outlines all of the changes. Do a search and let us know if you can find it, since I cannot at this moment.

beyond what was already mentioned....

the crank case ventilation system is different. 18s have a sensor on the line, 17s do not.

The rear axle center section casting on the 18 is slightly different. Differential skids made for 17 and older 9.75s do not fit.

obviously strategy codes, etc are not the same. Tunes are unique. There are some changes to the engine mappings and trans mappings.

if you have a b&o sound system in an 18, a passenger side seat release is pointless, there is pretty much zero room behind the seat.

18s produced after Feb 26, 2018 have a metal oil pan and drain plug.

That's all I can think of right now. There are more small differences.

Basically no big difference. Go with the color you like and the best deal you can find.

That was quite comprehensive. Thanks!

I’m still torn if I should just wait on a 2019. I like the active shocks and I love the new Ford Performance blue paint. I’m just concerned it will take forever to arrive.
From previous ordering experience, if I’m able to order on day 1 when should I expect a 2019 to arrive? Is mid-November feasible?

Later!

Id say wait for the 2019 just because of the shocks upgrade. But yea, you'd be lucky to get one by the end of the year if you ordered now.

Depends on how many orders are ahead of you at the dealership. Ford tends to spread a dealer's allocations out throught the year and it is not first come first serve when pulling dealer orders.

Fastest way to get a 2019 is finding one already on the lot after it is released.

Yes, but if the pricing history of the Gen 2s hold, the dealers will be asking for a large ADM to get your hands on the "new shocks" and what not...

Lots of midwest delears are selling for list price and under. Might not get a discount out of the gate, but MSRP on an in-stock 2019 shouldn't be a problem for someone willing to travel.

It would be sweet to get the new seats too.
My biggest complaint is poor side bolsters.
These cabins are so wide, I find myself falling off the seat, hyperbole, when doing any aggressive cornering. With old school seat belts you could at least tighten up the waist belt portion to keep your butt stuck in place!!!

get some schroth harnesses and save yourself the headaches.

Those blue recaro seats are fugly. Probably better off trying to fit the mustang FP aftermarket recaros in a raptor. ( they have all the airbags and what-not as well).

With production currently due to start 10-22, I wouldn't expect any before end of November before they give the OK to buy if no major production issues. If there are a lot ahead of you, end of year is probably more realistic.
