GEN 1 Coil spring failed

From what I can tell the coil isn't rusted anywhere around just where it sheared. How does this happen? This truck has seen extremely light duty. 20200207_152727.jpg

Did you notice when it failed/broke or did you notice once you pulled the wheel?

Reason I ask I is the rust could have developed after the break if it wasn’t noticed for a while.

Guessing it was just a weak point when that particular coil was manufactured. If it’s stock, just replace it. They are cheap.

Just trying to figure out how it failed. Doesnt look like corrosion. Can just see some because of t20200213_172522.jpg he exposed metal. There are impact Mark's on the inside which seems like maybe caused binding putting strain on the last coil?
