We're headed into our 2nd desert season with the Raptors and we have some newbies to the Raptor which means some haven't camped much/at all or it's been a while. I thought I'd start a thread on camping gear recommendations and suggestions. There are many options so these lists provide the basis for a checklist to ensure you have all that you need for overnighting outdoors:
Shelter
* Tent or you can sleep in the truck bed
* Ground cloth/tarp - we put one under our tent
* Tent pegs/stakes
* Shade tarp with poles, rope and stakes
* Mallet for driving tent pegs - an axe is OK too
* Mat for tent entrance
* Dust pan/brush
* Flashlight for tent
Bedding
* Inflatable mattress (we bring one and inflate using power converter)
* Sleeping bag
* Sheets, blankets
* Pillows
* Air mattress, sleeping pad, cot
* Air pump
* Repair kit for air mattress
* Utility bags for storage / dirty clothes
Cooking & Food Supplies
* Water - lots of water (it's the desert and while it's the "winter" it still gets quite hot)
* Large water jug
* Coolers and ice
* Thermos
* Stove with fuel / propane - we use dual fuel stove and lantern (uses gasoline which we always have)
* Matches and lighters
* Grill and charcoal,
* Firewood and fire starter
* Dutch oven if desired
* Campfire ring/container
* Fire starters/newspaper
* Tablecloth
* Plates & bowls/paper plates & bowls
* Flatware /plastic silverware
* Measuring cups
* Heavy-duty aluminum foil
* Paper towels
* Trash bags
