Hello everyone,

I've been meaning to make this post for a while. My wife and I are in the market for a new vehicle for her, and we're hoping to get some specific experiences and opinions on the options listed above. Currently, she drives a 2016 Ram 1500 (5.7, Laramie) and regularly drives my Raptor both around town and on long trips. We would appreciate your thoughts and insights on this purchase.

We know the Bronco Raptor will likely be a favorite here, but we're especially interested in real-world comparisons from members who have driven these vehicles, as well as any thoughts or observations from those who have considered them and why you made the decision you did.

And of course, pictures, because everyone likes pictures! The colors on the Bronco and Sequoia are her preferred choices. The others are just my best guesses.

Thanks in advance for your input!

Bought the wife a Sequoia TRD Pro. It's ok. No real rear cargo area and the seats do not remove or lay flat due to the batteries. You have to buy this kit and delete the rear seats.

Also, there are ZERO offroad recovery points. You have to, you guessed it, buy more shiτ.

The Lexus has the same back seat issue.

In the process of finding a GX550 for my wife currently. Drove all the above and currently have a Porsche Cayenne GTS which has been great. The Lexus was a very nice all rounder and excited for it. Have to let me wife do it if I want to keep getting a new truck every year

You really have three different types of vehicles on your list. Braptor is fun, but has wind noise at speed and I find it to have a very raw driving experience at lower speeds. What kind of feel does she want in a SUV?

If my wife was choosing between those, she'd take the Expedition. No real reason other than she doesn't like the Broncos(ride/comfort is better than a Jeep, but not like a Full Sized Raptor) and has always wanted an Expedition with all that room. At the end of the day it's a truck without a bed and will do most anything an F-150 will do.

We went the Toyota route 2 years ago with a 4Runner and they're just not exciting. Lexus is better on the creature comforts, but again... toyota's are just kinda meh.

I have been considering the same vehicles for my wife as well, and for me at least it came down to needs. 2 dogs and 3 kids the only option is expedition.. and max at that. But if it’s just the two of you then I would say are you planing on off-roading it? If not my vote goes towards a performance car in suv clothes. BMW x3/x5 was what I would want as long as it has a b58/s58 motor. My sons Supra is a beast. Or rs6 avant(dream car) if your a baller.
Take everything I’ve said with a grain of salt.. I haven’t driven any of those you’ve mentioned, just going off what I have researched.

Appreciate the insight. My buddy had a newer Tundra and it just never did grow on me. He ended up trading it in for a Gen 3 Raptor. Sequoia looks good on a small lift and 35's though imho.

To me, the three vehicles are a totally different class - Braptor is more "toy" category, IMO

Agreed. I think driving feel and need will ultimately be big deciding factors, though I do agree with @Big Blue that the Braptors looks are a cut above the others.

Definitely passed time to reach out to some dealerships and schedule test drives...

Any one else got anything to add? I get the impression she isn't the only significant other trying to decide between two or more of these.

Didn't Toyota have an issue with their new Tundra platform engine?

Otherwise, the Toyota for the win on a lift. The interior of the BRAPTOR is lovely. If you can spuce up the Sequoia interior and lift her a dash, I would chose the Toyota...

"Toyota has experienced major engine issues recently with its 3.4-liter twin-turbo V6 (V35A) engines used in certain Toyota Tundra and Lexus models, leading to multiple large-scale recalls affecting roughly 275,000 vehicles. [1, 2]

Key Details of the Issue

    • The Problem: Manufacturing machining debris left inside the engine block can contaminate the oil system and damage the number-one main crankshaft bearings, leading to engine knocking, rough running, stalling, or complete failure. [1, 2, 3]
    • Recalls: Toyota launched initial recalls in May 2024, expanded them in November 2025, and added another wave in May 2026 covering specific 2022–2024 Toyota Tundra trucks and Lexus SUVs. [1, 2]
    • Remedies: While initial campaigns relied on full engine replacements, Toyota introduced diagnostic methods using acoustic and sensor data to evaluate main bearing wear for subsequent phases, though some owners have expressed skepticism over the inspection process versus direct replacements. [1]

Yes! Good point. I had forgotten this, and their "waves" were leaving owners with failed motors out in the cold. I too would be skeptical of their inspection process. I would assume Toyota had at least worked things out at the factory by now, so anything new would be okay.

That said, while it is fairly un-related, we've had our spare car in to the Toyota dealership a couple times and I've been less than impressed with the service department there. The Ford dealership is far from perfect but I'd rather go through that service department any day.

We have a 24 Braptor (with hard and soft tops) and a 23 Expedition Timberline (now called Tremor).
Love both of them. Wife drives the Expedition most often and I drive the Braptor.
Whenever we travel I generally do all the driving and it just depends on the mood and the weather as to which vehicle we take.
Have used both for football tailgating as well.
Actually currently looking at a possible trade in of the Expedition for a 26 F150 Raptor cause like the flexibility of a pickup truck over the SUV.
