Hello all,
I have these rust bubbles on the top of the cab on my 2012 Gen 1 and I was thinking of sanding them down then applying POR Epoxy putty and repainting. Will this do the trick or do you recommend something else

Cut it out and weld up the holes, then either repaint or install a rack or something to cover the repairs.

Seems like a strange place to get rust. Was anything installed there before? CB radio antenna or roof rack? I'd take it to a body shop just to get a estimate.

Nothing mounted on top that I can tell. May take it to a body shop and see what they will charge. Just want to take care of it before it gets worse.

Probably just a large rock chip that became neglected. I had one in a similar spot. I had intentions on repairing my self but took it to a local shop. They charged me $450. They sanded and grinded out all of the rust and sealed , primer , and blend painted it back in. They wanted some astronomical amount to repaint entire roof but the said the back window and moonroof would need to be removed to repaint it correctly. Which is true but. I’m happy with the way it came out.

Looks pretty flakey in there. I would pick out as much as possible. Then you will know what you will need to do. From just looking at it, I would bet your going to have to cut it out. Looks too deep to be able to sand out.

Agree that the rust needs to be cut out. Once it’s past the surface like that it will continue to come back if you just patch it. Probably best left to a body shop.
