As I was getting in my truck today the A-pillar grab handle completely broke off around the mounting screws. The rest of the pillar and handle and everything is intact, just the mounting hole broke. Luckily I didn't fall and bust my a**.

Anyone else ever experienced this? Or is this just bad luck for me?

p.s.
MSRP is ~$400 for the replacement part...WTF?!?

sounds like a phone call to BuiltRight to have them design a replacement for $200... lol.

Your post made me realize I have never actually needed to use the grab handle. I guess that may be a good thing based on your experience.

Jen Tres redesign? who knows. I've literally hauled myself up for weeks on end while I was sporting an injury without a hitch.

A point of question, with no offense intended, but how much do you weigh?

The mounting hole on the handle broke? Or the mount it bolts into?

225 lbs, so not a lightweight but not really giving it the business either

I only use it here and there, but I've never had any of the grab handles like that break off in any vehicle I have ever owned.

The plastic holes that the mounting bolts go through broke apart. The body support it mounts to is still in tact with the mounting bolts still firmly in place.

I'll upload a few pics when I go back out to the truck later.

Factor of safety should be a minimum of 2 (rigging is 5) with max possible weight. Seems like a bad batch of plastic, or a serious design error. I'm sure Ford would be happy to replace it, let them know.

My Ford dealer was worthless, they did not entertain any idea of replacing or addressing the issue at the their oe Ford's expense. They promptly steered me towards the Parts Dept to buy another piece of plastic for ~$400, even with the truck is still covered under ESP and PMP.

Luckily, I found a A grade replacement through eBay for $130 so we are back in action.
