Did the change over to colder pre-gapped plugs on my 2020 802A SCREW, and figured I’d take the extra time to capture some data for you gearhead nerds like me.

All 6 new plugs came from OffRoad Alliance, and came pre-gapped. 3 plugs were at 0.26, one at 0.27, and two at 0.28. I placed the 0.28 plugs in 1 and 6, the 0.27 in 3, and the rest got the 0.26 plugs.

I also measured the plugs I took out along with pictures.

Plug 1: 0.32 gap

Plug 2: 0.31 gap

Plug 3: 0.28 gap

Plug 4: 0.30 gap

Plug 5: 0.30 gap

Plug 6: 0.31 gap

I did have a small idle shudder occasionally, like a murmur once every ten seconds or so, erratic. I’m expecting this to go away with the new plugs. The coils and boots were all cleaned, dielectric grease was applied to the tip of the boots, and anti-seize to the plug threads.

Forgot to mention I am at 31k miles, and the plugs are the original plugs, I believe.

Curious - why would you not gap them all the same? Not gapping them correctly from the start is only opening yourself up for getting misfires sooner.

Because the gaps on the new plugs were all within tolerance of the “tuned” spec, and I didn’t want to touch the gap and risk damaging a plug just to have them all be the exact same. If one of the new plugs was way out, tighter or looser, I would have gapped it in. But with this small of a variance there is no difference.

I'm at .028 and I change plugs every 10k. I am tuned, and I drive her like get away truck coming across the Mexican Border just after a heist drunk on tequila and full of burritos
I am planning on changing my plugs every other oil change, while tuned.

Thanks. That makes sense.

Unsolicited opinion re: Why not gap all the plugs the same? All his plugs are between .028-0.31. That's a difference of .003, which is probably well within the margin of error of his measuring device (and his eyes reading the measuring device). .003 is about half the width of a human hair. So in short, they are well within tolerance of being "the same."
