I'll answer my own question on this one. No, there isn't anyway to just see the wallpaper without the overlays as of yet. I'm told that there will be an update for the system in late 2012 that will allow you to just see the wallpaper only.
On a 2013 with the Ford My Touch system, I can successfully add wallpapers but the overlays for the four sections (Phone, Music, Nav, weather) are always seen. Is there a way to dim or eliminate those so I can see just the wallpaper?
