Is there an interference between the valves and the pistons on our engines? Is a broken valve spring usually catastrophic? Can you recommend a source or brand for high quality valve springs, and lash adjusters for that matter? I'd like to put in better ones than Ford did.....
Hey FTO, if I'm in there replacing the lash adjusters, should I also do anything else, preventatively, like change the valve springs? I'm at 133k miles and I'd like to keep this truck forever, so using high quality replacement parts is key, so if you can recommend specific lash parts I'd...
Lol, not available on the Left coast ;)! It's not pinging, my ear is well tuned to that sound. I'm just talkin' about the first few seconds after startup, I'm remote starting, walking up to it and I can hear it quiet down in 2-3 seconds as oil pressure builds.
FYI, there are differences in synthetic oils, and quite significant ones related to wear! Project Farm just did a great 'no sponsor' shootout, it's about the least biased test you'll find. If you're keeping your Raptor you don't want to miss this! If the link is removed, lookup 'Amsoil or...
I've got the 5 star 91 performance tune in my 2014 and the cold 2-3 shift is softer now. I'm used to it so until the temp gauge comes up I drive easy off the line. Overall completely love that tune. Within a block or two the shift is fine. Lol that tells me the issue is in the programming, cuz...
I'll give that a try. Ya think I can carefully lift that big driver's switch out of it's hole with plastic interior tools or do I need to tear down the whole interior door panel? Lol, no big deal if it's the latter, last sunday I spent the day dropping my Rap's headliner and installing the...
Could the bad driver's switch keep the whole door lock system from working? Are they wired in series? I checked fuses and the wires for breakage in the door jam, but nada. Could be the solenoid, if there is one?
Those Methods are definitely clear coated aluminum, and that's a clear coat issue. Raw alum does not get crazing like that, it just gets dull and you can easily polish the dull out. ...and that's the ONLY benefit of raw alum, I agree with what Old Raptor Guy said, "One of the worst things I ever...
Does anyone have experience using an Accusump on our 6.2L engines? Mine makes a little clatter on startup and it goes away quick. Would the preluber just hide the symptom and not fix the problem; excessive valvetrain lash as FordTechOne said?
Hahaha!!
Lol you guys are killin' me! Pic is a riot :D!
I'm not sellin' my oem 17" SVC beadlocks, aamof, just for you guys, on my next set of new tires, I'll go back to my 17's and see what I like best. Since my Duramax got totalled last month I've got a set of beautiful 95% new 35/12.50R20...
I'm going totally off heresay, Raptor friends and forums Augster, and I thank you for this info! That -13 was my erroneous calculation using the online calculator. I like your real-world experience way better! Same for the SVC uca info. I heard RPG also had a 1.5" uniball option from a friend...
Lets talk about offset for a sec: lets presume we're using a 9 inch wide wheel, 35" tire. What are the main reasons Raptor guys seem to like their wheels tucked in so tight? Clearance for 37" tires so they don't hit the fenders? Less stress on bearings and ball joints? Steering?
I heard to run...
Thank you Christian! Went on their site and the 17x8.5 wheel is a feather light 26 lbs! Oddly, I didn't see a 20"? 18" was the largest listed. Yea I think stock beadlocks are about 35-36 with the trim rings and hardware.
Hey Augster, I was looking at the Ford specs for our 6.2 L engines, and it showed that our engines develop 11 more HP running 91 octane, vs 89. Granted, this CA winter alcohol blend may cut into that benefit, I figured 11 hp for 40 cents more per gallon is the cheapest 11 hp I'll ever find this...
Such important considerations Augster, and you're spot on that heavy unsprung weight is very 'seat-of-the-pants' noticeable! That's why I'll be stickin' with 35" tires. With all your O/L gear, what front/rear spring and suspension setup are you runnin'?
I run my Screw unloaded mostly, with...
Mine's a little different; unlock button on the remote flashes the lights, I hear something from under the dash, but ALL the doors do nothing, and the lock/unlock button in the door nor the keyless number pads do nothing. Fuses look good, but today I'll actually test continuity on good fuses...
Mine just started doing this last night, except ALL doors do not unlock from the keyfob nor the keyless touch buttons outside, nor the inside door lock/unlock button. I checked fuse 20 from owner's manual info but didn't know about 32, I'll look for that tonight, as I look for the fuse panel in...
It's not the fiddle; it's the fiddler ;)! You know what you're doin' and I'll just guess he was having a bad weekend.
I've been runnin' 20's on my Duramax for almost 20 years, and you kinda get used to them.
Good word, that makes more sense. So does that mean your backspace is about 4.25-4.5 inches?
I'll try to find 9" wide wheels with enough backspace so I can still run RPG UCA's if/when that happens, heard you need less than 6" bs.....?
Agree Augster, I'd rather have the more aggressive MT tread for the times you need it, however, I don't feel like I'm compromising road noise with Toyo MT's - they're quiet as heck! Even when the tread is low, they've got excellent street manners and are very quiet. The key is correct air and...
Thank you for the feedback Adam. I'm right there with ya - MT's every day, all the way! I've gotten stuck a few times too many with AT's in wet mud or off-road snow. The fact that they look so badass is icing on the cake! I'm giving Mickey T MT's a hard look after I wear out these nearly new 20"...
Looks like you got those F Trail Graps aired down in this pic, and the 35's allow plenty of protective sidewall for slow trail use, is that right?
I won't be desert blasting either, just can't bring myself to thrash on my Screw. I can totally see why you'd run 17's, cuz there's way more tire...
I've got to ask you too Murder, would you ever run a 35"x12.50r20? What benefits and drawbacks have come from running 20's and how long have you run them?
