Add me to the oil leak group

Good to know this is a simple fix and not the cam phasers of ecoboost hell!

Looking for Raptor R - Will pay $150k

So, why would you want to pay this crazy premium for a 23 when you know the 24 is coming with some awesome updates?

Yes, you will have rust over your hunk of shit. Be ok with it.

    2018 Knocking

@d.p - just start that process now and get rid of the truck. Be very careful if you are to buy another one. Maybe go to a gen1 or an R so you don't have to deal with this.

Raptor Vs. Raptor R Trim Color Comparison

You will have plain Raptor bumpers on the 23. The 24 gets the new bumpers... not sure if they are R specific, or it is across the base Raptor too. In any case, we know that the Raptor R will run for a few years, and 2024 definitely has a new interior (it's like the Lightning), and new...

    Misfire - Damaged Piston

You are right, and this engine is hard on plugs. It is amazing that this engine makes the power it does. But, it just doesn’t do so reliably. You can see from 2017 until present that it is plagued by the same repeated design failures. Plus, these are carryover failures from the inception of the...

    Misfire - Damaged Piston

Yes - you will find that the masses here do NOT change spark plugs at 100k miles.... or 50k miles.... with the awful history of the ecoboost and its bad reliability history, changing sparkplugs frequently is essential. This engine is fun.... BUT.... EXTREMELY finicky. This is exactly why to stay...

    Misfire - Damaged Piston

Wow - I think most here will tell you that 15k-20k miles is all you should go on spark plugs. This engine is very hard on plugs, and very sensitive to gap. I would say you got a burned up plug, and the pieces of it got into the cylinder and destroyed a cylinder. Can’t ever be too cautious on the...

Played my cards right - order placed

I talked to a dealer today to get my R order in. They had a $40k ADM, and I was good with it. Now, the trade factor kicked in, and I was able to secure a deal that was my Shelby GT500 and $45k cash for an ordered truck. Worked out well, and dealer is only 6hrs away. I have bought from them...

    Broken tie rods

Since this is the “R” forum, I don’t think anyone has broken them… Non R stuff doesn’t belong here… move the threads over to non-R for these things

    GEN 2 Correct replacement phasers

Thankfully, I escaped the ecoboost curse. Currently a 6.2 boat anchor work truck Raptor with no issues in all its time, a 6.6 Duramax, a 6.2 Tahoe RST, and a 5.8 Shelby GT500. Love each one of them, and zero mechanical issues of any kind with them.

    GEN 2 Correct replacement phasers

So, this is yet another part design change? FTM is an excellent source on this stuff and is not a Ford fanboy... he calls it pretty straight as you see in this video. I do feel sorry for the ecoboosters.... this cam phaser design debacle completely ruins this truck. This here is a prime...

Ford acknowledges engineering and design flaws - more executive shakeup

Looks like Ford is going back to the drawing board again to try and fix the systemic quality issues they have on engineering and design. https://www.autoblog.com/2022/11/03/ford-quality-chief-retires-replaced/?ncid=txtlnkusaolp00000618

    Burning Oil?

I do not see any program change at all with this TSB. It is just related to the bad valve covers. https://www.tsbsearch.com/Ford/20-2423

Pre Lube pump to prevent Cam Phasor Failure?

I am surprised nobody has made a cam phaser delete kit for the 3.5 like there is for the 4.6 and 5.4 engines.

    Pending New Owner! (Philly)

You will want to make sure that you see all the things to look for on the 17 - mid 2018. There are plastic oil pan leaks / cracks, transmission tuning tweaks, valve cover issues (cracks, and inner baffle issues), and the known cam phaser failures. Make sure you look it over with a fine tooth...

3 years, 11 months, and 46,132 miles I finally get Cam Phaser problem

Agree on fordtech's error. Gosh, this is exactly why not to own an ecoboost because you have to live the service life. These yo yo ford service center monkey idiots can't do anything right... not even follow simple commands. The ecoboost nightmare is legit.

2017 motor trashed oil related ?

Exactly. whether you think this cam phaser plague (recall issued) is acceptable or not, it still really sucks because the crappy fordtech's just never get these back together properly. Thus, why owning an ecoboost is just not that great compared to other engine options ford has. There are more...

Anyone Switch to Full Synthetic Oil?

So, if Ford tested this with semi synthetic, builds, ships, and services with semi synthetic…. I would think the engine is meant to run and survive on it. I would not run anything different and risk voiding the needed warranty.

    My 2023 RaptorR order

I would swap that into your truck asap - would be much more fun!

Major engine issue after owning my raptor for a little over a month

I completely agree. Something was badly flawed in your original engine, and I would ask for a COMPLETE replacement. I would not accept less. If they don’t do it, be prepared to trade this off immediately post-“fix”. You don’t want this one. So, there were probably other extenuating...

Just sold my GMC 2500 HD Denali

Was your 2500 gas or diesel? I have an L5P (no 10spd) and it is deleted… absolutely fantastic truck. I have had 2 6.2 Raptors and both are great for reliability and will run long term with minimal regular maintenance. I did have two versions of the 3.5 ecoboost and was unlucky with both. For me...

Rebuild Gen 2 with V8 Conversion & 5-Link or Gen 3 for $25k-$30k over MSRP.........

I would definitely start the process for going the 5L SC route so that you are preparing. That will be a fun truck! I test-drove a Roush SC truck and it was incredible.
