Yep those are the gen 1 coils and they don't really rub so much as make contact at full droop. Its not a binding, just a resting of the uca on the spring. The gen 2s are not even close to fitting correctly due to increased center bulge in the barrel.

The springs I'm comfortable changing. When I've been servicing the old set I haven't had to disconnect the axles I think that will give me the extra droop I will need for the additional length.
