How To Weak Vacuum Line and grinding noise FIX

follow up to weak vacuum. Since I first wrote this thread, I have never had a problem with my vacuum lines leaking. When I put it in 4x it always works and I haven't had to change out the hubs or actuator since then. I'm glad to see that this was a good fix and that others have found it useful.

How To Weak Vacuum Line and grinding noise FIX

I explain that line in my orig. post. It goes from the plastic to the rubber line that goes down to the Actuator. It is the vacuum line. The smaller tube on the double rubber line is the vent tube for the actuator. This is the one that you need to extend up into the engine compartment to avoid...

How To Weak Vacuum Line and grinding noise FIX

If the IWE and Actuator gears are warn at all it will definitely make the popping noise. It is loud and very unnerving. I have changed the way I switch into 4 wheel drive. I either stop and switch or make sure I am at least under 25 mph and lift my foot off the gas until my dash says it has...

How To Weak Vacuum Line and grinding noise FIX

When you say relief line. Do you mean the dual rubber line that comes out of the IWE? That relieves the vacuum out of the actuator when being switched. It is very common that the actuator will get contaminated through this line if you have a lot of rain or are in a lot of water etc. That can...

How To Weak Vacuum Line and grinding noise FIX

Did you replace the actuator at the same time you replaced the iwe? If one of the gears is warn down at all it will cause the gears to disconnect under load. How much all depends on how warn the gear is. The gears only mesh about a 1/4 of an inch or so. So when they are warn it is easy for them...

    Dreaded 4x4 popping and disengaging

It's been a while since I have been on here for this subject. I stick by my original thread on the fix for the OEM vacuum lines. http://www.fordraptorforum.com/f170/weak-vacuum-line-grinding-noise-fix-24281/ Use the copper and silicon hose to replace the plastic ones. I have read the entire...

How To Weak Vacuum Line and grinding noise FIX

There's an easy way to check it by putting vacuum on the vacuum line and see if it leaks down. If it leaks down then you have a leak and that is probably your noise. Is your truck out of warranty? Do you use 4 wheel drive a lot? What is he saying the noise is? Transfer case is controlled by...

How To Weak Vacuum Line and grinding noise FIX

One of the main concerns is the difference between a crack in the line and an actual break in the line. If it is cracked then you could still pull vacuum but not enough to completely disengage the IWE which will cause the noise. If it is completely broken then it should default into 4 wheel...

How To Weak Vacuum Line and grinding noise FIX

You'll always default to 4 wheel if you break a line. If you remove the vac line at the brake booster your iwe will lock up unless you have an issue like I did with broken actuator which is not common.

How To Weak Vacuum Line and grinding noise FIX

The cracked vacuum line causes the actuator to rub the oem hub gear wearing it out. That is what the noise usually is. Use a vacuum pump to check the vac. You can do this for the whole system from the connection at the brake booster. If you have a leak down then you have a crack or broken line...

clickety clack goes the rear differential

Long ways to get to the Clickety Clack noise. So when I first started this thread, I thought my noise was in the rear. As it turns out after removing the rear diff gears, locker etc. I have learned about why there is a noise like this in the back. The E-Locker has a spring in it that looks...

    Upgraded IWE gear replacement interest

Have you thought about polling the non raptor forums? like F150 forums. Like you said, it is not isolated to Raptors and I would suspect there are more standard f150's out there that are used for 4 wheeling than the Raptor. Just a thought. Oh and I would definitely pick up a pair for since of...

How To Weak Vacuum Line and grinding noise FIX

I would bet that it is the plastic line that cracked. Especially under cold cold conditions. The line gets brittle. Look over the passenger side where the line starts down to the hub. There is about a 1 inch area that is exposed and is just a few inches away from the exhaust. This is the most...

How To Weak Vacuum Line and grinding noise FIX

I haven't heard from anyone but since I did this back when I wrote the thread, I have not had any problems with mine at all and my hubs lock in everytime. The most simple way to find out if you have a leak is to use the brake bleeder/vacum pump and hook it up to the vacume line coming from the...

clickety clack goes the rear differential

Pat. Thanks for your advise. That's going to be my next attempt at finding it but what is weird is that the noise is only when I can turn the axle and the spiders are turning like in the video. I started the truck and put it in gear with the cover off. Then I turned the locker on then off. The...

Feels about normal for spider gears without putting a gauge on it to see what the backlash is set at.

clickety clack goes the rear differential

No it was full of Royal Purple 75-140. I have an other than stock cover that holds an extra pint as well. When I drained it was all there. I'm holding off putting it back on until I get some sort of idea. I may have to just pull the ring and pinyon and carrier to find the problem.

clickety clack goes the rear differential

Can someone identify what the clickety noise is coming from the differential on my 2010 Raptor. It started a couple weeks ago. I finally got to diagnosing it today. It has me stumped. When I spin the axle the spider gears spin with the axles. You can hear the clicking noise in the video...
