Meh ok. Stock wiring will always work fine, right up until the volume (therefore output power) level hits a point where it doesn't work fine.
FYI - current is current. DC vs. AC (rms) there is no difference in how much a wire can handle between the two. The statement that AC can travel much...
200 watts into a 2-ohm load. P=I^2*R yields 200=2*I^2
I^2 = 100
I=10 amps.
In order to handle 10 amps, you're going to need 11 awg wire if it's ever going to be run at anywhere near close to full output.
I'm not trying to get into a pissing match. I'm trying to convince him to not take...
Except it's not about SQ - it's about proper wire size for the current being carried so that the truck doesn't catch on fire. If you add an amp, but you never "crank it" you're probably good with factory wiring. Depending upon the wattage an aftermarket amp puts out and how loud you listen to...
So after the last road trip, the mirrors on both sides emit a squeal/squeak when folding/unfolding. Anyone know of anything SAFE to spray in there to give it a little lubrication?
If you like watching your vehicle burn on the side of the road, this is an excellent idea, otherwise adding a relay and additional wiring to/from battery of appropriate size for the current load is the ONLY correct answer.
Outstanding - Saving this for future project(s) lol.
I like the idea of location based scanning to find activity. Intrested in how you're interfacing with the radio to update your memories as you go.
I running a Yaesu FTM-400XDR in the Raptor for now, but I'm finding I like D-Star digital...
I don't need the chase rack but dang I'd love to be able to roll my antennas back - are those for GMRS/FRS? That one looks like a comet ca-2x4sr for uhf/vhf/mars. If it's ham bands, well 73 de N5GER.
smallest (5 amp) upfitter out to the relay trigger. Relay In from battery (fused) and Relay Out to light bar. Should be cake. Straight to battery is the one correct answer.
NMO Caps for when you aren't using your antenna - lots of options here:

for my 2m/73cm install, i used a stake pocket mount from Breedlove Mounts. I mounted the antenna on the passenger side, wrapped the coax in wire loom, and routed it inside the side of the bed, coming out at the front of the bed and into the frame. Up through the frame to the passenger side...
This is well documented. On 2018's, the bundle by the fender are the pass-throughs, the bundle closest to the engine are the hots. This is exactly the opposite of the 2017's.
Additional hint - you don't always have to connect the pass-throughs to the upfitters! Use them for passing...
Man you got lucky! That was the first place I tried and they couldn't be seen from there. Well done. Tell us more about your ham install?
I just put in a Yaesu FTM-400XDR. Mounted the radio under the front of the passenger seat - it's actually attached to the passenger seat cross-member...
on a 2018, fuse 36 is on/off with ignition. Depending upon how much power you need, you may want to use it as a trigger for a relay rather than using it for direct power.
I disconnected the big plug at the top of the fuse box just to move it out of the way for my big-wide flipper-hands to get all up and in there. They're up there, just tucked out of the way and probably folded back and taped in a position you can't easily see them. FYI, when i finally found...
According to Ford, it is the maximum operational load for the switches. I wired a few things up and it appears that the 2 15/A circuits are 14 awg.
The upfitter circuits are meant to be used as-is with no additional wiring/relays needed if you are under their rated loads.
It would make...
Scratch that - I *needed* the wires and I was about to run another whole set through the firewall, but then i just reached up in there and grabbed the bundle and pulled - and there was obviously another fold way up there (it's paper tape) and voila - I have 6 wires ready to use. I'm going...
Yes you have this right - however beware that the owner's supplement on many of the 2018's is incorrect in showing which bundles go where - as well as the colors. On 2018's, the bundle closest to the fender contains the pass-thru wires and the bundle further inboard contains the hot wires...
