Speaking as an 250 owner who still wants a Raptor, I wouldn't get the Raptor to tow on a regular basis. I hope to own both one day, but for now I spent way less money on a brand new 2016 F250 I found on a back lot a few months ago. They are still out there, use cars.com. If you get the 2017, you...
Consider this...IF they put a V8 in a Raptor it won't be until 4 or 5 years of the V6 because they need to get what they can out of the V6 R&D investment. If they put a V8 in, it will be an option, not a replacement, with 550hp(?) and it will cost $10k more. Good luck finding one anywhere near...
Check with Donna Lolato at Bob Hurley Ford in Oklahoma. I ordered that truck at MSRP minus the carbon fiber and backed out. She said it is being built, maybe they could add the carbon fiber? Tell her Robert sent you.
I bought the 2016 because I like it better, especially the interior. I don't like that the cabs are the same as the F150 now, the 2016 interior is unique. I don't need all the extra bells and whistles the 2017 has. And I wanted the steel body. I paid WAY less than an 18 Raptor. The 2016 F250 is...

Ask for Donna at Bob Hurley Ford in OK. I just backed out of my MSRP order. The truck is being built.
Well I ended up canceling the order. I just couldn't get my mind around a V6 truck. I drove one and they are awesome, but for what I plan on doing the F250 was the right choice. Brand new 2016 F250 Super duty fully loaded Lariat for $11k off MSRP.
Thats misinformation from the dealer. Some dealers won't sell to CA residents without the CA emission order. The Raptors are identical. The only difference is a piece of paper from a checked box, and there are ways around that. Many have registered in CA without it. Do a search.

Ugh thats completely unacceptable on a new truck, unless maybe its a Dodge. Sorry man, good luck and stay safe with the Hurricane.
Just remembered my neighbor has a new 2018 SD that had the same issue. Turned out was just a bad transmission line. Easy fix and nothing major. Hope its that way...
Thanks! Ya its all I think about day and night now.

Ya weight is an issue and I want to use this truck the way its meant to be used and not load it down with a bunch of crap.
I am probably going to have to work with my shaper friend to design a shorter "longboard". That would solve a lot of problems.
Thats the biggest problem I have, how to store and carry my longboard surfboard on a rack and make it work with a RTT. This is a guy I follow on instagram Shark_toof . I like his set up, but I'm not sure I want a shell. His shell is an ARE. I don't know what kind of rack it is. Difficult...
As to question #2...
This truck holds its value very well. If they decide to put in a V8 in 2020 or later, or perhaps some other improvement that you really must have, then trade up to the new one.
Its a tough decision because this truck looks great in every color. What made my decision was two part: First, this is a bad ass truck and nothing says bad ass like black or red. Second, what is your personality, what fits you best? For me the answer was black. Yes its hard to keep clean, but...
