Well not being totally sealed you will be drawing in hot air from the engine bay but doubt that would cause your concern. Having said that, its very easy to swap back to the stock intake to make sure you rule it out.

Its hard to tell from the pics but is that afe intake open to the engine bay or does it only draw air from the top like the stock airbox? If nothing else i would swap the stock box back on and drive it before running out and buying more parts to possibly compound the issue.

Mine uses 1 quart every 3k miles which is actually pretty good for a twin turbo motor. You will get more blowby because of boost pressure as well as some gets around the turbo seals. I add a quart at 3k and change at 5k.

Bmw N54 engine had two turbos, one on bank 1 cyl 1-3 and one on bank 2 cyl 4-6. The N55 came on the F30’s and yes only has one turbo. The N54 came in the E90 335’s mostly but a few others as well. Just an fyi.
