    BFG K02s Mileage

2017 with 107k miles. I’m on my second set of KO2’s, and I don’t run down to wear bars. I have another set of tires/wheels standing by and will change about 110k. First set changed at 55k. I do 4 tire rotation every 5k and watch my tire pressure (38 all around). I also run beads in the tires...

    Valve Cover Issue

Based on my experience, I don’t think what the dealer tells you about your place in the backlog means anything. I was hearing something similar every time I checked and it mattered not one bit. They seem to have no idea when it will arrive until they receive it.

    Valve Cover Issue

I cleaned up the area around the crack with a degreaser (gunscrubber) and taped it with aluminum (metal) duct tape that I had on hand. This tape is sticky as hell, so get it where you want it before contact is made with the backing removed. It held up pretty well for about 3 months, then I...

    Valve Cover Issue

I've been waiting for the part for months now. I have a temporary patch in place that is at lease preventing oil from getting all over my engine, but I'm tired of waiting for the part.

BFG KO2 Tread Life Warranty Claim

I got over 50k from my original set and went back with same tire. My 2017 now has 96.5k miles and I'm guessing the tires have another 10k left. Discount Tire knows how to handle the tire warranties, but they also have a lot of inexperienced tech's and that doesn't always work out. My trim...

    Valve Cover Issue

Sorry for the delayed response. You have probably moved on by now, but my research shows a part number of HL3Z-6582-G. I was scheduled in for the work next Monday and the dealer called yesterday to say they're having trouble finding the part. Dang.

    Valve Cover Issue

I don't know whether it's repairable, but for me, I wouldn't go through the trouble of remove and replace without going back with a new cover. I don't think the part is super expensive. Also, I noticed the part # has changed, so perhaps they made some sort of improvement? Others here might...

    Valve Cover Issue

They confirmed to me they could get the parts in about 5 days and committed to ordering them so they’ll be on hand when I come in.

    Valve Cover Issue

I recently removed engine cover to replace plugs on my 2017 at 96k miles. Noticed the puddle of oil the OP mentioned and also most of driver side valve covered in light film of oil. I cleaned it up an found the crack in the valve cover. Damn it. The quickest appointment i could make at the...

    Cracked valve cover driverside

My 2017 Raptor has 96k miles and I decided to replace the spark plugs. That was an easy job, but when I removed the engine cover I saw oil on the driver side valve cover. I couldn't really determine the source, so I cleaned it up and took a closer look. I found it cracked in the same place as...

GEN 2 Which plug should I go with Sp 550 or Sp578?

I am planning to change plugs on my 2017 Raptor with 95,000 miles. Manual indicates change after 100,000, so I'm about there. Unfortunately, the proper plug is a little confusing. My truck is stock, btw. My manual supplement shows proper plug is SP-534. Online searching for ford parts and...

Clunk From Chassis: Can you help me diagnose?

I realize this is an old thread, but I want to put in a plug for the thread and forum generally. I had the front suspension noise/rattle and finding this thread put me on the right track. I changed the stabilizer (sway bar) links and problem solved. The top joint in the link was fine, but the...

BFG KO2 Tread Life Warranty Claim

I just changed my original tires at 55K. Happy with the tires in general and went back with a new set of KO2's.

GEN 2 Strategy for Using Balance Beads

Balance beads work great in motorcycle tires in part because the tires are narrow compared to truck tires and lateral imbalance is not a significant concern. The beads work well to correct for radial imbalance and I've used them in motorcycle tires for years. On wider tires like our trucks...

PSA....change out your factory lug nuts before it is too late 31k miles

According to the tire store I frequent, your information is spot on. The tire store staff told me when I complained about my factory lug nuts bulging that there are multiple car brands who have a similar design. They keep aftermarket nuts on hand to replace not only Ford, but others as well...

PSA....change out your factory lug nuts before it is too late 31k miles

I agree with most of what you say, but in my case the outer portion absolutely did swell. If that's not the best word to use, then they became "loose" on the main nut underneath. Some would move back and forth on the main part of the nut. This after a few tire rotations where the tire store...

    Raptor height

When my truck was new I tried the lot I was using previously (marked 6' - 8"). That clearance bar at the entrance cleared the front of the cab but it wasn't going to clear the rear of the cab. I had to back out (after 2 other cars that were behind me). Anyway, I now try to go with 6ft 10in or...

PSA....change out your factory lug nuts before it is too late 31k miles

Here is a pic of the locking design that I do not recommend. If they they are overtorqued, they can shear where the cross sectional area is reduced in the middle, then you have a project to drill out the lug bolt (times 9 in my case). Trust me that operation is not for the faint of heart.

PSA....change out your factory lug nuts before it is too late 31k miles

Here's a link to the Gorilla website. I'm using the 7/8" Black, Factory bulge lug nuts. These fit factory wheels and probably do not fit aftermarket wheels, so think before you order. Also, I find a 22mm socket fits the 7/8" hex nut even better than a 7/8" socket. The 21mm are probably fine...

PSA....change out your factory lug nuts before it is too late 31k miles

The link in quote above is for a thread started by me and describes an experience you do not want, trust me. The particular Gorilla lug nuts I was using were all locking type and they have a reduced cross section in the middle, and that's were they sheared. They were over torqued for sure. I...

Issues if not fixing cam phasers?

I ordered my 2017 SCAB and took delivery in March 2017. Now have 52k miles and 100k extended warranty. I'm had a 2-3 sec rattle almost from day 1 and the engine has always run great. No issues, no CEL, nothing but a 2-3 sec rattle. It doesn't have to really cool off much to do the rattle...

    Engine Oil Grade Discrepancy Question

Same for me. Of course, since I work for Shell and me manufacture that Pennzoil product, it has to be good! I've been to the plant where it's made (from natural gas). You can do some strange things with hydrocarbon molecules if you make it a priority!

    Dragging metal noise

I would have guessed IWE's too. Either solenoid or check valve or bad IWE. Slowing down would be low engine vacuum and that fits, but i would have expected it to go away with 4wd engaged. Hard to say...

    Balance beads

I have used dyna beads in my Harley tires for several years. I tried them initially because I hated sticking weights on my chrome wheels. They worked great for me and my Harley is much smoother (always going to have some engine vibration, of course). The beads work better for narrow tires...
