First Test Drive - Question for you all

Raptor Suspension I think the Raptors ride really well. However, this vehicle is a LOT different than what you are used to driving. Disadvantages: The unsprung weight in the Raptor is staggering. Each tire/wheel is more than double the weight of a car tire and wheel. Also the live axle...

    Which bumper...

ADD Venom I just installed the ADD Venom on my truck. Great build quality, and the fit was very good. I got the 4" Rigid and license plate option, and you could mount the 20" bar as well. 5 weeks from order to my door in Wisconsin. Beware shipping costs, was $360 on mine, estimated at about...

    truecar.com - anybody tried it?

I paid $500 over invoice (about $4k below MSRP). I did however trade in a vehicle for about $2k below what I could have. Basically I got $2k under MSRP for my ordered Raptor all together. The dealer would not give me the same price for the same Raptor they had in stock. It had to be...

what is the best nanny setup for driving on snow covered streets

Great point JP7. It's a great idea to play with the truck and get a feel for what it does and doesn't do. Due to the wheel and tire mass (I think), the stability control doesn't feel quite as sophisticated as some, but it still works. My buddy, an MIT grad, worked on developing the...

SVT Comments on Raptor Frame Bending

There we go. A enterprising member proved that the SVT engineers do know what they are doing. Looks like we'll need to spend significantly more money to get even more off road performance. Cheers!

what is the best nanny setup for driving on snow covered streets

I don't know how you guys can state that a Raptor is more safe on slippery surfaces with the nannies off. More fun? Absolutely. More safe? No. Especially since the OP was asking for advice on the best setting. This isn't about YOUR driving skills, this is about what the OP should do...

SVT Comments on Raptor Frame Bending

As someone already mentioned, I bet those bump stops are perfectly sized to prevent the shocks from bottoming out and getting destroyed. I can not imagine SVT suspension designers overlooking additional travel for such an easy change in the design. I hope that when someone trys to "improve"...

SVT Comments on Raptor Frame Bending

Droop travel is important because it keeps the tires in contact with the ground better. Why is that important? Cause you may want to turn AND go over a bumps at the same time. It also prevents the vehicle from riding like crap, because you would have to increase the spring rates to ride higher...

what is the best nanny setup for driving on snow covered streets

Older, crappy ABS systems were often based on fewer sensors than four, and engaged prematurely, resulting in far greator stopping distances than threshold breaking would. This gave ABS a bad name amongst those who were able to get better performance without it. My '92 Sunbird was a prime...

what is the best nanny setup for driving on snow covered streets

For recommendations for settings in snow ON ROAD driving: 1. Click the 2x4 knob over to 4x4. 2. Leave everything else the hell alone. You do NOT need to disable stability control in order to "not get stuck". 1. Spinning wheels usually makes you more stuck. 2. traction/stability...

    Why buy a Raptor??

Nobody needs a Raptor. Unless maybe you are out in the desert patrolling the border. Period. Ther are cheaper vehicles out there that go faster (uh most anything), are more economical (uh, also most anything), tow more (F250 etc.), carry more (>5,5' bed), and seat more people (vans...

Love the raptor but hate ford dealers

Cheers! I also traded an M3 in on the Raptor. I've had widely differing experiences at BMW dealers as well, had I not loved their product, I'd have sold my BMW long ago. Lexus realizes that dealership experience is very important to keeping loyal customers. It's too bad that ISF aside...

Screw seats comfortable for larger drivers?

I'm 6'5" and 240, and these seats are the best I have ever sat in. In anything. Including high end Cadillacs, Mercs, and BMWs. They wear a bit, especially with how you have to get in and out, but they are AWESOME seats. The cooled seats I had in my M5 seemed a bit gimmicky. The problem is...

Finally did middle perch...now truck scrapes at 6'8"

Options? 1. Eat more. 2. Teflon coat the garage door beam. 3. Sand bags to load down the truck coming in and going out. 4. Drive really fast (downforce will lower truck at least 1/8"). 5. Rent concrete saw, remove 1/2" off of door frame (covertly, at night) 6. Paint door lintel same...

Raptor vs Prerunner Ranger vs Tundra+mods

The Toyota Camry with the larger engine will thrash a 6.2 Raptor from 0 to 60MPH. Raptors are awesome, but not becasue of their mid 8 second time from 0-60. Drag racing a Raptor on the road is like mud bogging a Mucielago. You aren't playing to the vehicle's strengths. In fact, the 2012...

HELP!!! Is the NAVIGATION really worth $2,500?

Money no object it's a no brainer. Obviously you get NAV. The decision is a very personal one. Personally I couldn't justify the additional price. $2,500 is about $40 a month added to a five year loan. And yes, you'll get some of it back when you sell/trade in. But that will also...

HELP!!! Is the NAVIGATION really worth $2,500?

If you have a smart phone, you will always have the most updated NAV available. Also, SYNC can give you turn by turn directions without nav, it's all voice activated. So NAV is a third redundant system. I couldn't justify the option for my truck, but I also was trying to fit it into...

Tire chains..absolutely not, or just a precaution?

In the big midwest blizzard last winter I drove through tons of snow that was taller than the tire, (ploughs hadn't been through yet) with the stock tires. The Raptor had TONS of traction. 4X4 plus a locker... I really can't imagine needing more traction. If you get high-centered, tire...

Yes, you can get a Raptor stuck

The flag attachment is just a straight bracket with a U bolt that clamps on the tow bracket on the bumper. See attached. The whole thing plus the cushion sleeve cost $42. Well worth it.

Silver Lake is awesome. The first big hill is pretty intimidating, especially when the Jeeps (stock) can't make the climb.
