How would we know, the coil may be shorter than the length of the shock, maybe there is Zero preload for that matter.

The main issue with the Gen 2 coilovers is that they use M8 studs that go through the strut tower. The new Gen 3 trucks have larger holes in the strut tower and the struts use M10 studs. I would kil myself if I had to drive that migraine causing racket. These trucks sound aweful and exhaust should be left alone as any mods yield no horsepower gains, likely a loss of torque in most cases.
