I highly suspect that your shock is blown. I had similar symptoms, a leaky front passenger side shock, had it rebuilt, and all symptoms gone.

I used to live and grew up in Sterling, VA, and my parents live out in Purcellville! But I'm now out in Northern California, which much more access to the desert. :) This mod is really straightforward, just rent the spring compressor from Auto Zone and you just need a basic set of hand tools.
