First what a fantastic video of the Gen I Raptor in Baja. To be clear they broke some stuff. Engine and Cooling system problems were purely related to modifying the truck for Baja, making it less reliable funny enough. However break downs to learn from that could happen to us;

1. Broke rear Springs both sides and hollered out frame
2. Drive line center CV wore out
3. IWE Failed first time out had to manually engage(and we are still talking about this abomination?)
4. Front skid plate tabs broke

I would love to have a chat with the 4WD guys! there has to be a good reason why this unit is still production. switching into 4WD from 2 and also going from 4 high to low is complicated and needs to be durable. the IWE as much as we complain about it has to be either economical or nothing better is out there to replace it. (cost effective)

Assuming they did one full lap, that's not to be taken likely guys. These course are brutal on trucks like ours. I've been over parts of the San Felipe 250 courses, and we just went over part of the mint 400 course and we had to go 15mph. Gordon in his full prerunner could only do 25mph on a stetch in a full longtravel 4llinked prerunner.

They get chewed up so much by the trophy trucks and other classes. Could have been an ecu issue or any number of things. We've had ecu's fail 2 times on the trail. Sucks but it happens.

That being said I'm am skeptical how the turbo's will hold up. But at the same time I don't want to loose perspective of what the truck is being put through.

Definitely interested to see what the problem was.

I heard through the grapevine that the issue is with turbos overheating and the Caitlyn tune. Not sure if this is an accurate report or not. Just what I heard.

I think it's still a horrible idea to enter a stock truck into a desert race. Watching a truck like the H&M Raptor out on the course puts into perspective how rough these courses are. That truck is linked with 20" of travel in the front and tons of money into and it clearly is at a disadvantage to all the tube chassis race cars. If it actually finishes one of these races I'll be surprised. It's not a race truck. Never has been, never will be.

The real question is, if the problem is with the engine or trans, will they implement the changes made on the race truck for the new production. That's probably a decision for the bean counters at Ford and not the guys on the Raptor project. At the very least I hope we know what the cure to the problems are so we can make the changes in the aftermarket world.

I think its more of a double edged sword. On one side you get good testing to see what might and might not work but then on the other you get an incredibly harsh environment that will most likely break something no matter what.

I hope we get some updates soon at least...or maybe a video from when the truck was running yesterday.

absolutely you guys are 100 % correct that was my point with trophy trucks these are purpose built trucks that are very expensive. I applaud ford for being out there.
as for the turbo stuff that was my biggest concern when they announced that the eco boost is going into the raptor. forced induction affects engine longevity even at mild boost
