Great write up! Just finished image-2201130147.jpg My son and I used an arrow to reach upper tabs And here it is! image-3339891943.jpg
Oh yeah and we found sanding the cotter pin side of the plastic pin helped it slip in a lot easier.

For those struggling to get the fuel filler door pocket out without breaking off the tabs or busting up fingers, do yourself a favor and pick up some plastic body trim/door panel pry bars. I got this set on Amazon for $4.99.

Cheap tool that won't damage the paint and you will probably find a use for them later anyway.

You can just insert one in the correct location to pop loose a tab, move to the next tab, etc... I've indicated the location of the tabs here:

Did you break the pin?
Most are just loose and have to be pushed back into place.
Try used auto parts to find one off a damaged truck...

Hello Shark, thanks for the tip. I am definitely one of those struggling to get the clips released. I was not able to get even ONE released.

Question on the tools, are you going at the clips from the front, or back (reaching up through wheel well)?

I have ordered a set of these tools. Any other tips? My dealer wants $100 to fix, would MUCH rather do it myself... if I can get the damn thing out of there!

I reached in from behind and popped out the one at the 5 o'clock position first (the only one that is easily reachable from behind), then stuck one of the plastic tools in from the front to keep it from slipping back in, and then used a second plastic tool to pop the next one out, and then just worked my way around until they were all free. It may be possible to just get them all from the front, however.
