I am not an automotive/diesel mechanic, but the whole V6 TT vs V8 NA seems to be overboard. If you like the sound and sound alone okay. Maybe you can mount both indoor and outdoor speakers to keep your sound. :ROFLJest:

If we go back 20 yrs and had forums it'd be nice to see what the diesel guys were saying. Turbo's aren't needed...it's the wave of the future....can't handle the dirt....

Just yesterday my 5 yr old son got to ride in probably a 1/2 million dollar tractor setup. New MF with large baler and some kind of deluxe boiler/steamer setup that steams (and possibly dries?) the alfalfa to help keep the leaves on the stalks and make the best bales. Yep that tractor engine is TT. Pretty sure most farm and logging equipment now day's is TT...how does that manage all the dirt those see?

I also wonder how many naysayer's here have even driven the 3.5L Eco? I own a 14' Raptor and a 12' Lariat w/3.5.
- Stock performance the 3.5 is much quicker to respond, even with the turbo lag. Now add a tune and it's incredible, turbo lag almost gone. 3.5L is 4x4 Screw long box loaded. With a tune the 3.5L just wants to go and go quick.

- Towing the 3.5 is much better, yes even light loads and I know the Raptor wasn't built to tow. Just towing my JD riding lawn mower in an enclosed trailer, maybe 1500 lbs total, Eco wins hands down compared to the Raptor, yep drove both trucks with the same trailer and lawn mower setup.

I don't know how much Ford will push the Raptor's tune, but the amount of gain with a simple electronic tune on TT's will be hard to beat vs. headers/exhaust/supercharger/etc...

Yes, you are correct, you evidently are not a automotive/diesel mechanic.
But even if you just have an average US education you should know that diesels have been turbo or supercharged for generations.
Also comparing a turbo diesel set up for slow speed or stationary applications to one for highway speeds is like comparing apples to horseshit!

No V8 means no purchase from me. I dont want to hear the crap about the V6TT hauling better etc. I had a 2013 FX4 V6TT and I hated it and wished everyday I had got a V8. I towed with it and it did no better than a V8 and always sounded like crap.

Thats my story and I am sticking to it.

No 17 here for sure ;)

And I totally agree. I had the V6 TT in my last truck. It was great on the highway and the street. And they can probably overcome the dust issues associated with off-road driving (probably).

So if Ford would just put a hydrostatic transmission in the truck to keep the revs way up and fill the remainder of the engine bay with fans pulling as much air as possible over the turbos and exhaust, then they should last forever. I'm sure you are familiar with the some of reasoning behind the huge size of combines and other Ag machines. It's all about stability. And air flow. And filters. And......

I'm like you. I'm no mechanical engineer. But the basic fact that the turbos in these trucks need air to keep from melting down is basic knowledge. I just want to see how they perform when covered in mud and dust for extended periods of time. I know I NEVER had my Platinum muddy like these trucks get. And it NEVER was in the air. And it NEVER drove 400+ miles over some of the rockiest, rough roads that Colorado has to offer over a period of three days.

But, they may be the best thing since peanut butter and bread. Only time will tell. One thing I do know, is that the people on here will test them and test them hard. We know the Gen 1 can handle it. But you have to admit, when one little thing fails in those turbos or intercooler, it's gonna be WAY more expensive to repair than a Gen 1 cold air intake or a Gen 1 alternator.

I bet the power steering is still going suck... Another reason to wait for Gen3, it will surely have electronic power steering...

Gen 2 is going to have EPS. It wasn't exactly bullet proof on the 11-14's either.

I hope that's true but I can't find that in none of the articles I read, and LAN ****'s have the Ford web site blocked so I'm unable to verify if it will have EPS or not.

I will definitely not be buying a V6 raptor, regardless of final specs. I like V8's period. I know that emissions regulations coupled with business decisions has been driving companies towards both forced induction smaller displacement motors as well as reducing how many families of motors they have, and that they didn't feel like doing the chrysler thing and paying "carbon credits" to keep the V8s, but I like having V8's. I would rather have seen them force induct a smaller displacement V8 than a V6 of equal displacement.

I know they have risen to the challenge and are dealing with it by putting out big final power numbers and tossed in a 10sp, but personally i just don't like it and wouldn't buy it. Just like if there was no V8 option for the mustang i wouldn't buy that either. If i was crazy rich and could afford it, I wouldn't buy the new Ford GT either because of the V6.

I mean, to each their own, and thats ok. Some might agree with me, obviously others disagree with me and can't wait to get the new raptor and hey, power to you, great, hope you get to enjoy it soon.
