Light weight? Sure it might drop down to 3 tons with a couple of people in it but that's not exactly svelte! And there's no evidence that it will be "much more nimble"!

well I guess I'm just trying to be positive, if it's 500lbs lighter it will make a big difference in handling just like it would in a car.

I just purchased my wife a 2015 Grand Cherokee which has an 8-speed trans and it's awesome! Really good gas mileage and super smooth.

The only issue I see is that if ford has a ****** trans and you notice every shift.

Except that 8 speed is garbage in anything performance oriented, it's very slow and dim-witted, it takes a 10 second break to think if the amount of throttle you're giving it calls for a downshift to first, second, third, or fourth before making a decision and finally giving you a downshift, which is usually not the gear you wanted because your foot is now through the floor begging the transmission to do something

Except that 8 speed is garbage in anything performance oriented >> You have no clue what you are talking about here. The grand cherokee SRT (6.4L V8 hemi with 475HP with 470 fp or torque and awd) uses a 8-speed trans (ZF german trans). O-60 in 4.8 seconds. Go test drive one.

And yes I have driven the JGC SRT and it shifts much faster than the current Raptor trans.

BTW, the Hell Cat automatic trans also uses a 8-speed trans (ZF german trans). Is 707HP enough performance for you?

And what you are describing below as a slow trans is what the current raptor has. Why do you think lots of guys runs a tune, because the current trans is slow to react.

I've driven many of them, everything from the 3.6L Grand Cherokees to 6.4L Challenger srt8s, the only 8-speeds I haven't driven yet are the hellcat twins, the one that shifted the best was a 5.7L Chrysler 300, which my personal raptor, which has stock programming, would've laughed at the shift times of, the worst part is the manual mode fights against you and inputs will sometimes result in a shift and sometimes not with all circumstances being the same, every time I get in an 8-speed it makes me think Chrysler didn't really program it to be a transmission, just left a suggestion in the programming that it should be one

I am still building my 2012 ecoboost raptor. The mechanical part is done, just fenders and paint remain. My ecoboost raptor "feels" much lighter than my 2011 crew cab 6.2L raptor.

I have had a 2010 5.4 platinum crew f150
A 2011 crew cab raptor
A 2012 ecoboost crew cab f150

I can honestly say the six speed in my 2011 and 2012 is light years ahead of the 5 speed in my 2010. I trust ford will do it right and the 10 speed should be amazing. 10 speeds will keep any motor in the power band. Remember, the ecoboost has a much larger torque curve than the 6.2. They are not doing this because it is a "wimpy v6"

To those that love the original raptor, keep em. Meanwhile technology will continue to progress.

I gave my buddy with a hell cat crap about ordering the auto till I drove it. No way I could shift that fast and with the precision to handle 700 hp that well.

I'm not sure what 8-speed challenger you drove, but it must of been broken.

Isn't the 8 speed Chrysler uses designed/shared with Mercedes? I thought I remembered reading that. Could be wrong though.

Not that I'm in love with Mercedes or anything but still.. It should be a solid trans

The actual time it takes to shift is good, but in all the ones I've driven the time from input of a demand for a shift to shift completion was appalling

Acting like dual clutch transmissions are god's gift to fast shifting is a surefire way to make me doubt your automotive knowledge, standard automatic transmissions are capable of instantaneous shifts just like dual clutch transmissions, the only reason they're slightly slower right now is because they have many more clutches, and the more clutches a transmission has the more lag has to be built into it for variations in clutch engagement rates to ensure multi-gear engagement doesn't happen (if you didn't know, if any kind of transmission ever engaged two or more gears at once, it would instantly lock up, preventing any movement at all, which, while moving, would result in your transmission barfing it's guts all over the road)

Ecoboost engine torture test, motor 448AA.

This is actually pretty damn impressive. Its the torture test of the original ecoboost from 2012. Im going to assume the new Ecoboost going into the Raptor will be even better. If everything said is true in this video I hardly doubt any Raptor owner will stress their trucks this hard in its lifetime.

I'm coming from a turbo world, this video def convinced me to look forward to the new Raptor Ecobeast!
