GM's V8's have always gotten way better MPG than Fords. This isn't new news. 550rwhp N/A vettes getting 30mpg while similiar hp boosted cobras pray for 20. Those big ol' pushrod engines are full of torque and surprisingly efficient - especially now w/ the addition of direct injection - simple as that.



Let's please stop saying this. Completely different set-ups. One's made for high-revs and horsepower - the other for low-end torqe and mid-range. There will be completely different turbo's w/ different a/r's, cam specs, and possibly even intake runners, etc... You won't be a few mods away from 600+hp - it's just not going to happen.

Now yes, maybe the shortblock will be the same and maybe it'll be able to hold 600+hp, but it will take more than just a few mods - in addition to what Ford will be providing us w/ to get it there.

As for now - I'll keep enjoying my tuned 6.2 w/ its Roush. Instant TQ and sounds like a truck. Although I do like the looks of the gen 2... Please for the life of God explain to me why the huge FORD across the front isn't enough - does it really have to be huge as shit on the tailgate too?? Just give me the oval w/ FORD written on it for the rear. The front grill gets the point across.

The one ford release mentioned it as an available bold tailgate.

So, there's some hope it's an option like all the graphics on the current one.

That is exactly my point. You said it better than I did. GM, Dodge, Toyota, Nissan all make good MPG V8's and are continuing to develop them on into the future. Fords answer is **** IT well just drop some cylinders because we are too lazy to engineer a fuel efficient powerful V8. Well blame the EPA and hope nobody notices.

Don't get me wrong I'm not bashing Ford. I'm trying to wake them up. I would love nothing more than to dream of my next Ford 6.8 liter V10 TT gas truck... Sorry I'm not going to pull up at a light or mud hole with a V6 truck. As Austin Powers says "It's just not my bag Baby"

Good points but it's simply the result of more moving parts and identity that we're providing more technology by matching performance from a lesser displacement. Look at bmw's 5L V10 that they put into the M series cars. They were N/A'd 5L engines w/ 500hp and did so w/ ease. - they also got a bit fewer mpg than Fords 400hp 5L coyote engines. GM on the other hand was putting 505hp N/A 7L LS7's in C6 Z06's a decade ago and u could get 550rwhp w/ bolt-one (600+ crank hp) and that thing would still manage 30-31 mpg - the funny thing was that it really weighed no more than the other two 5Liter engines.

Ford could easily provide the same 6.2L displacement as in the gen 1 Raptors w/ better heads and direct injection - and surpass the 450 hp mark and get much better mpg (especially w/ the 10speed transmission and the truck being lighter) - but they have clearly missed the mark. I guess that would have hurt the rest of the "ecoboost" line in the other F150's.

Have you looked at BMWs lately? NO MORE V8s. They are now V6 TT. Everyone fusses about Ford's EB but they are just to stay ahead of the curve.

Uhh... BMW still has a V8TT. Between the I6TT and the V8TT, they both carbon the valves around 40K, have turbo oiling issues, injector issues, and more fun stuff...

Uhh... BMW still has a V8TT. Between the I6TT and the V8TT, they both carbon the valves around 40K, have turbo oiling issues, injector issues, and more fun stuff...

Yes. Going to the V8 was a mistake anyway for that car. They had throttle actuator issues up the butt... and other common failures.

Furthermore, in my reply I stated that bmw's N/A 5L made great power for it's size, but was not great in providing good mpg. Much worse than Ford's N/A 5L. GM's V8's use displacement, a lot of old school tech w/ some new school edge and provide very efficient V8's that easily make acceptable hp while operating in their most efficient form. Sure you can add a monster cam and other goodies to make more power and worse fuel mileage, but they leave that to the end owner.

Did anyone see what GM just did w/ the new Caddy CTS-V compared to the one going out??Had Ford given us that old man Cadillac power plant in a new Raptor - everyone here would be posting their current trucks up for sale.
