Possible Internatioanl northern expedition

As a participant I can tell you I hope the organizers of the big events make a profit. If they didn't the headaches of organizing would drive them to stop putting on events. As is all the business run events donate tons of money to good causes which is awesome. The other non-profit runs end up costing the organizers more money than any of the participants spend and a ton of their time as well.

So I guess to the OP, just decide which way you want to go and try your hand at it. Maybe start small with just a few friends to explore the area in question. Gives you a chance to learn the area and possibly find team members you can count on if the decision to go bigger is made. And as others said just enjoy the ride and the people you meet along the way.

Is the GLRE (and TRR for that matter) a "for profit" business? Of course we are, we have to be. To legally obtain liability insurance, take registration fees, physical/monetary donations for charity raffles, be granted certain land use permits, accept sponsorship support, etc. you have to be a functioning business with a tax ID. That being said we aren't living lavishly off of the backs of the Raptor community by any means.

The majority of money we take in is reinvested back into keeping the GLRE sustainable. Our trucks have greater wear and cost more to maintain & operate than the average Raptor owner spends due to pre-running, future location scouting & travel (fuel, hotels, flights, unexpected repairs/towing), deposits for future event related activities and that sucks up a huge chunk of the money taken in from an event. Then we have to pay taxes on everything left over or that we couldn't write off as a business expense. At the end of they day the amount of actual profit is fairly laughable and proof it's done more because we enjoy it rather than "for profit"

In terms of charity, the GLRE has donated approximately $50,000 to charity in the two years @Kanakry & I have been in business.

There would be no mud bog. logging roads may encounter a bit of mud but no get your truck stuck crap, solid base to all trails.
