I bought the Doug's cut out and was not impressed with their Y pipe. It is cheap, not stainless steel, and uses tiny band clamps. I've upgraded to a Magnaflow Y pipe, but had to modify the cut out to fit.

I did have problems with the cut out, only because I drove through water with it open. Pertronix repaired it and/or replaced the motor. About a month later it died again. This time, I took it apart myself (No I don't have pics). What I found was a shit ton of tiny gears, all seized up. The motor was fine, so I pulled all of the gears out, cleaned them, and lubricated them heavily (the gears were not lubricated at all and is probably the cause of most their problems. It has worked fine since.

My first Doug's cutout died on me after exactly 2 weeks. Fortunately I bought it from Amazon and they replaced it immediately. There was SERIOUS corrosion (rust) inside the bearings that the plate uses to move against (original post). My second cutout has been flawless (knock on wood), BUT, I have been spraying a corrosion prevention compound into the area where the bearings are about once every 2 weeks or so.

I really like the set-up! It sounds frign awesome with the pipe open, but when I want it to be quiet, like on long trips, I just flip a switch.

I have a DMH cutout, had it on for almost a year. Works great still and I don't have to spray shit on it, love the maintenance free.

Just put my third on the truck yesterday. Luckily I also bought mine from Summit so they just sent me another one. They said they have a lot of issues with them. Love the idea, just doesnt seem to be feasable to kepp it working without steady service and as posted earlier, modifictations. I am getting to be a pro at changing them out though. Almost feel like the father in A Christmas Story changing the tire. "A NEW RECORD!"

How are you guys getting ahold of anyone to replace it? I have made several phone calls with no answer. Sent an email or two with no response. My hasn't worked in over a year.

I have mine for six months now. Stopped working after three weeks. Took it apart, cleaned it out and sprayed a lot off vaselinespray on it. No problems this far.

I will have to look at it and see how it comes apart.
