This is probably a noob question. But what is a drop shackle and what benefits does it give?

From what I have seen, a longer shackle usually lowers the rear end, but I have found it tends to 'swing' more with the lighter leaf springs and give it a softer ride. I tried using a lift shackle, which is very short and noticed my ride seemed to get stiffer as the leafs worked more and the more I used the overload springs...

That make sense?

Thanks! I got HD Springs, the drop shackle will help smoothen the ride to make it almost feel like SD Springs

Shackle only effects the ride height not ride quality.

It has no effect in spring rate. It's just there to allow the springs to extend as they flatten out

The drop shackles are for future set up. He plans on doing the low profile bed cage and 3.5's and those require drop shackles.
