How many windshield cracks can a Raptor get from a dump truck?

On the way home from work yesterday, I'm on the phone with Entergy getting the temp service cut over to permanent power at the new house. I have my stereo turned down and can hear things hitting the truck, look around and see nothing. As I'm turning off and fixing to be at the base of the bridge I see a dump truck way up there as well as some over sized parts of a house. I know construction starts at the other end of the bridge and speed up so I'm not stuck behind the over sized loads. As I get closer, the sound is getting more frequent but not really louder. Then apparently I catch a bigger pebble and see a crack. After that, another and another. I get the **** in front of this ******* and while driving checking out the damage best I could. I see 5 easily noticeable stars/chips with one already running. I look in my rear view and see the dump truck taking an exit so I cut over and pull on shoulder. I also noticed a CTS doing the same. I get back on and get a few cars behind the truck in the other lane. Enough to see pea gravel POURING out the back of it, think of how after a rain you see trucks just getting started and taking off and water coming out of the tailgate.... I do best to get pictures while driving in heavy traffic. Ended up with 5 stars or big chips, 2 stars are running and already finger long this morning. Plus the entire windshield as a fuckton of small nicks all over it.

Called the business, speak with someone. He asked the truck number, but I wasn't sure where it was located so he tells me. Told him I got pictures of the side of the truck as well so I know I can tell him the truck number when I stop driving. His supervisor isn't in and took my name and number, supposedly getting a call today. I'm doubtful, but have zero issues calling them as many times as possible to get this crap fixed.

A few months ago I took a rock from an oncoming truck. It chipped about midway up on the very left edge where you couldn't see so I didn't know. Going home that night the weather was super nice and there weren't any other cars within 10 miles of me in either direction, so I put the hammer down to have a little fun. About a mile later I blast through a flock of sparrows at about 120mph. I bet I took out three or four of those little bastards and, unfortunately, one hit right on the unknown chip. Next thing I know I've got a four to five inch long crack pointing towards the middle of my windshield. Wonderful!

Anyway, when I bought my truck the dealer talked me into this windshield application called Crystal Fusion (for like $100 or something). Basically it's a spray on coating that's suppose to make the window more chip resistant and bead up water better. (It does work for water. Don't even have to use the wipers most of the time). Anyway, part of the application is a chip repair/replacement plan. A week later I've got a nice new windshield and it didn't cost me a dime. They even reapplied the crystal fusion to the new windshield at no cost. Pretty good investment if you've got a dealer around that works with that stuff! :)

First of all, good luck, but unless your laws are different than Arizona, you are not going to get any satisfaction. It is considered an act of God, and you will have to make an insurance claim.

It does remind me of a story of when I was driving a truck, and a stripper pulled me over...

Hopefully having the picture of the back clearly not properly secured and dropping gravel all over the road will help your case.

We had no problem. I called the company which contacted their insurance. The incident happened on a Friday, Monday I was contacted by an adjuster Tuesday they came took pictures and gave me a copy of the claim. Tuesday evening I got a call that they approved the claim. By Friday I had a check in hand for the replacement.

Many trucks have the "not responsible for objects coming from road" sticker on their truck. Just so you know that is NOT a law. If you have a witness it does really help thought. Those folks carry insurance just like the rest of us.

I have a feeling it'll be a harassment to get this taken care of and at the end of the day I may have to eat the deductible and replace under mine. It is what it is... But I'm going to try like hell first and hoping the pictures of the gravel pouring out helps. A co-worker that left when I did also saw this going on, he caught up to the dump truck after he exited highway.... so I do have a witness if needed.

This company is lucky I'm calling them to fix and DOTD didn't see it. If I have to eat it, I'll gladly be in contact with DOTD to file a complaint.

that sucks. Good luck with it all. I would be pissed. I hate getting behind semi's and dump trucks for this exact reason.
