^ Is Ford in the business of selling vehicles? Will they sell more vehicles over the long run if the vehicles they sell age out a little sooner? How best to cleverly accomplish this little miracle of fleet manipulation? Recommend longer maintenance intervals so that parts wear marginally faster? Yeah, that oughta do it.

Theory? REALLY? You're kidding, of course. Dirty oil isn't a problem? Then why ever change the oil and why are there oil filters to filter it? Clogged oil filters that don't filter any more isn't a problem? Then why change oil filters? If my "theory" is in error, then every mechanic in the country is a thief, a great percentage of the automobile parts industry is a fraud, and no maintenance can be justified.

Guys, I never said I was going to change my oil on my raptor every 10,000 miles. That was on my previous F-150 5.0L that I traded in. That engine has the IOLM, the raptor does NOT. On the 5.0L the manual stated follow the IOLM which is pretty close to 10,000 miles. The manual in addition states to change your oil once a year, whichever comes first. I always followed what the manual stated for maintenance which is all that is needed for warranty concerns. I did not feel it was necessary to go above and beyond on this when I knew that I was going to keep it less than 3 years and eventually was going to get the raptor. Ask any dealership, if you change fluids early, will they give you more for a trade, they will not.

On the raptor, the manual states to change the oil every 5,000 miles if I recall. That is exactly what I am going to do, follow the manual and plan on keeping it until the duration of the 5yr 60k powertrain warranty. I fully understand that changing oil sooner has a benefit, just like changing your underwear more than once a day might be beneficial to some folks. If you plan on keeping your truck forever then changing oil sooner or using a better oil is a great option but IMHO if you plan on trading it in, the extra cost is not worth it. That is all I am saying and it is not "wrong" to follow the Ford owners manual.

Not so. The Ford Factory Manual says to change the motor oil every six months or 7,500 miles, whichever comes first.

I wouldn't follow that guidance on a bet. I change every 6,000 miles, sonner if I've done some hard driving.

Grabbed the manual and took a look. As I stated, I said what I recalled so I wasn't stating a fact at the time. In the owners manual it does say 7,500 miles for oil changes but under off-road conditions it states 5,000 miles for oil changes. Tires have to be rotated every 5,000 miles or abnormal tire wear. So my plan is to change oil every 5,000 miles and do the tire rotation at the same time, so I am going above and beyond the recommended schedule.

But the OP is asking what to check for during delivery so what does changing oil have anything to do with this bickering?? :tizzle:

Make sure the dealer has the fuel tank filled to the top. Then drive it home like you stole it! You'll have a permanent grin on your face the whole way.

Thanks guys this is all good stuff. Even the oil change, which I have heard go both ways. It's good to see different opinions on things like this. It was supposed to be delivered today, but I'm hoping for a drop off of tomorrow so I can get it on Saturday and then have that permagrin all 5.5 hours home!!
