After reading all the pros and cons of changing-out my new 2013 Raptor's oil, I decided to perform the oil-change myself. . .

. . .just put it this way, it's not fun having to go to Wal-Mart at 12:30 A.M. for an oil-filter wrench - after discovering half-way through the oil-change that you needed one because the factory decided to install the original oil-filter a little more tighter than "hand-tight".

On the up-side, once I got the factory oil-filter off, the rest of the "change" took less than 15 minutes.

LESSON LEARNED - Always have an oil-filter wrench when doing your Raptor's or any vehicles first oil change.

For the curious...I used Royal Purple's 5-30 and a K&N oil-filter. I know the recommened oil weight is 5-20. but here in S. Texas, it get's very not in the Summer time and the extra heat protection that a 5-30 weight oil provides vs. 5-20 is better.

Good luck!

I haven't had to change my oil yet so I'm not sure how tight it is down there, but a flat head screw driver hammered through the side of the filter has always worked for me too loosen a filter when I didn't have the right wrench.

And idea to keep in mind for the future lol

The oil filter being tight as hell is pretty typically on any vehicles first oil change.

I've also managed to remove a tight oil filter with a cheap cargo ratchet strap. Just remove the strap from the ratcheting portion, and wrap it around the filter 3 times so that the hook end bears against the side of the filter and pinches the strap against it when you apply pressure (with your hand) in the loosening direction. It may take a little adjustment to get the hook in just the right place, but it sure beats a trip to the store.

Red line.

Getting Raptor in a week or so and want to get feedback before my first oil change.
