Alright everyone. I went down to the dealer and they have no clue as to why the truck is shifting the way it is. I'm still pulling codes for the cam sensors. Is there anyone on here that can tell me if the cam gears are different on a 2010 6.2 vs the 2012? They said that might be what's triggering that. I need to crawl under the truck tomorrow and see if a connector may be loose around the transmission. All the programs were up to date on the TCM so I guess we shall see. Help is greatly appreciated

Really dumb question here but is your truck supposed to have a 5.4 but instead you put in a 6.2?

What are the exact code numbers you get. The camshaft trigger points shouldn't be any different. If your PCM didn't see either camshaft sensor the engine won't start. The camshaft sensor fires the fuel injectors. I will have to go back and read the shifting issues. I'm going to guess you have no transmission codes. Nothing has been changed on the transmission has it. The main valve body has a solenoid ID that is programmed into the TCM if the code was changed for what ever reason you will have all sorts of issues.

I got two codes; P0390 and P0394 initially. I just went to pull the codes after reading your post and it pulled a third code P0000. Can't find anything on the last code. The service manager at the dealership told me that they have been swapping out cam sensors but was very vague on his reasoning. I still have the original sensors but requires me to pull the timing cover so I am doing research before I have to do the job twice. The shifting started after I put about 150 miles on the new engine. It would down shift for no reason in the middle of accelerating. It was the hardest down shift I have felt in any vehicle ever. Nothing was done to the transmission so I am lost on why it would do it. Thanks for your help

Don't know if this helps, but I had the same problem on my Excursion...had a 7.3 in it...then truck shifted like shit and just went into limp mode and had it towed in...it was a cam sensor, which was under what the dealer said Ford had a "voluntary Recall" on...

Here is the rub...about 7k miles later my transmission took a shit...don't know if they were related, but that was not a cheap replacement... Only had 80k on a diesel and did not tow...only thing I had was 38" tires.

All I can say is good luck and stay on them...

Alright both of those codes look to be for camshaft circuit bank 2 . It looks like it must be seeing bank 1 cam sensor so that is why it will run. The best thing would be to test the cam sensor circuits to the PCM. I would also check the connector itself as this pins are very sensitive to foreign objects. There could simply be a pin figment issue that is causing you check engine light. The P0394 is a cam sensor circuit code that is intermittent. The transmission shifting hard I believe there were a couple TSBs for faulty shift solenoid. Could be a reset of the shift strategy for any random reason.changing the engine if any trans lines were disconnected I would defiantly check the fluid level. Let me know what ya find with the camshaft sensor. Are they changing the actual sensor or the VCR solenoid. Also make sure your looking at the driver side for bank two. The VCT solenoid sits on the going into the valve cover and the camshaft sensor should be able to be accessed on the outside of the front cover. Correct? If you have a picture otherwise ill look at mine tomorrow.
