Swapped Running boards

I don’t have my truck wrapped nor do I have mud flaps so the one thing saving my doors from rock Armageddon is how the side steps come from factory. The thicker portion up front helps with side spray especially if you have 0+ offset wheels. Keeping mine as is.

The thick portion has holes in it which create the racing mud strips. The smaller portion is solid.

I've heard the same from Gen2 owners and I see no areas that would be saved that the fender well doesn't already cover. Now it might be slightly different on the Gen3, not sure on that one.

thanks @MrSasquatch for the pic.. funny I was just looking at my running boards and wanting to make the switch as well.
I can't "unsee" this now. I do have tires that are as close to stock as possible +25 so it would be interesting to see if I start ending up with Rock Rash on the sides but I doubt it. I will have some before and after pictures of the steps as I plan on doing this over the weekend.
